Horncastle Arena is a New Zealand sporting and entertainment arena located in the Christchurch suburb of Addington. The indoor stadium is capable of hosting concerts, exhibitions and various sporting events. The complex is only 10 minutes from the city centre. It has been affectionately dubbed 'The Woolshed' by Canterbury Rams basketball fans. Some Christchurch citizens colloquially refer to the arena as the horseshoe, due to its unusual architectural exterior design.Horncastle Homes currently holds the naming rights to the stadium.HistoryCharles Luney was the builder for the stadium. The arena opened in September 1998 at a cost of NZ$32 Million. In the first ever sporting match at CBS Canterbury Arena, the Canterbury Rams basketball team suffered a close loss to the Wellington Saints 86–81 in April 1999.

On a positive side we have an indoor venue in this city to host performances of some world class entertainers. That’s the only place in South Island, which can host so many people almost 9k. Facilities and venue is far from perfect tho. Starting from terrible parking experience, unless you come 2 hours before the show, forget to find any spots and be ready to spend additional extra hour after show to leave the place. Completely unnecessary and only lack of planning and management. Inside the venue is bare minimum with badly designed and non functional facilities. There are just 2 bathrooms on each side with never ending queues, especially for ladies bathrooms. Food and snack areas are just there to sell overpriced booze and nothing else. The whole booze selling at venues is a separate topic, as some people are already completely drunk, ruining experience for others. Not to mentioned they all sit and drive after the event, which is a general problem in this country. Finally the sits are really uncomfortable and not designed for anyone sitting there more than 20 minutes. Overall it’s we don’t have any other choice option, but the city should really think in investing in better facilities and experience
We went to Cirque de Solei .... absolutely amazing and stunning the staff were really nice .. we had back seats and were offered better seats .... which we accepted
Saw Cirque Du Soliel here. Amazing show- good arena. Parking is a bit messy construction and multiple venues but simple to find.
Great concert venue. Plenty of parking. Got there early and walked in at 6pm straight to merchandise section, cause u need a t shirt to say u were there. Saw Sting in concert. Food and drinks are available on site as well.
We went to Jimmy Carr which was amazing!!!, and even though we left home at 6.50, we didn't arrive into the arena until 8.05 due to unprecedented traffic hold-ups. Unfortunately we couldn't get anything to eat or a drink as all the vendors were closed they had apparently been advised to close at 8, which was very frustrating, esp as there was SO MUCH hot food sitting there!!! In saying this, I have been to may events here over the years and find it to be a great venue! It just seems as tho' this event was jinxed as it took over half an hour to get out of the carpark at the end of the night...
Saw Crystal here. Great seats near the ice. Not the usual deafening noise as people step down the scaffolding rows. Could be different for other show set ups. Good food stalls around the entrances
Awesome experiences over the years at the arena. My recent experience was the best. I thought I'd never in my lifetime get to see Jeremy Camp live. It was such a privilege and special night.
Went to see Cirque De Soleil Crystal. Fast and efficient service for drinks and food. Tricky to find seats in limited lighting and limited toilet facilities available for the large numbers. Still a great accessible venue though to have on our doorstep.
Unfortunately, I didn't get any photos. I am not complaining as I was so engulfed in the cirque du soleil. Absolutely amazing set up, amazing show,. The location was easy enough to find and the email update for the show were well received
Great views from basically anywhere in the arena no pillars to ruin your views!, but the seats are quite hard and a bit tight. Plenty of parking available but also convenient to catch the bus or orbiter to an event on the off chance parking is unavailable.
