Story

Horizons Regional Council is responsible for natural resource management, biosecurity/biodiversity, transport, catchment management, civil defence and emergency management, information within the Manawatu-Wanganui Region.

The Tararua, Manawatu, Horowhenua, Rangitikei, Wanganui and Ruapehu districts and Palmerston North City are within our regional boundary, along with part of the Waitomo, Taupo and Stratford districts.

In partnership with our communities we work to maintain and enhance our Region's land, air, water and coast; preserve our patch of native NZ; lead our Region's road, rail, public transport and total mobility planning; reduce the risk and impact of flooding; lead the Region's response to natural disasters; provide accurate information to guide decision making.

It's all part of making this Region a great place to live, work and play. Visit www.horizons.govt.nz for more information.

This page is monitored during normal business hours and we endeavour to respond to all enquiries within 24 hours. If you require an immediate response please contact us on toll free number 0508 800 800.

"The Horizons Region extends over 22,200 square kilometres - from Ruapehu in the north and Horowhenua in the south, to Whanganui in the west and Tararua in the east, and has a population of approximately 240,200 residents. As your Regional Council our role differs to that of city and district councils - we are responsible for managing the region’s land, air and water resources on behalf of the communities we serve. We also contract passenger transport services, play an important part in regional transport planning and road safety education, work to reduce the risk and impact of flooding and lead the planning for and response to emergencies to help keep people and properties safe."

On the day I paid my rates, I spoke with a man at the desk. He of course did not give his name. I was asking about the fact that the buses that are housed over night at the end of Matipo street PN, make a great deal of noise and also leave a lot of seen pollution on the house and especially visible on the lid of the City Council recycling bin lids. He said he was having a meeting in 3 weeks and would phone me - FACT He never phoned me! I actually didn't expect it! I have been in there with other concerns only to NEVER be phoned back. I really wish NOT paying my rates was a legal option. If they are not able to be held accountable then how are we made to pay the enormous amount of money they charge in rates?
Insufficient customer carparking. Victoria Avenue has less parking because of the new buildings and there appears few, poorly marked parks on the Horizons site.
Hyy Cancel the bus listing from internet if bus is not on schedule . We don't have time to stand at the bus stop for 30 30 minutes everyday. Kindly don't show the bus if not available.
Awesome purposeful facility. ITF intermediate training. I hope to use this valuable skill. Great tutors
POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE....BIG DEAL ONE FREE 2 WAY PASS ON THE BUS WOE THATS WORTH MY 73 YR OLD MOTHER BEEN BRUISED UP AND FALLING OFF A BUS AKA SAFER TO WALK THAN CATCH THE CITY BESES.
The staff at Horizons are helpful, and experts in their own fields. Any questions about natural resources, they're well worth getting in touch with!
Didnt recieve rates bill, had to chase it up myself and pay penalties. Emailed for address to be changed. No response
Manawatū is a great place to live and it’s awesome to have a regional council full of people that really care about the community and protecting the environment.
