We arrived in mid afternoon and order 3 light meals: Salmon 5 ways, Salmon chowder and winter salad. The chowder was too salty for our liking, but the flavour was there. Salmon 5 ways, portion wise, a bit skimpy. The winter salad turned out to be a pleasant surprise for us. Fresh ingredients and interesting combination, I've never had asparagus so fresh like so, paired with pear slices and other seasonal veggies, it was heaven. We didn't try fishing but saw other visitors enjoying their time! It's quite a decent place for people of all ages to visit.
Excellent set up. Well worth popping in. Very family friendly with interesting games, fishing & walks. Great menu featuring salmon of course. Beautifully landscaped. Million dollar scenery!!
Great place to stop by and catch your own salmon! After that, they prepare it to your liking, amazing experience from lake to plate. Staff there were friendly and keen to help you. Food at the bar was also very good and fast. Highly recommend if you enjoy fishing and having the freshest salmon. Note that you have to buy whatever fish you catch; you can’t catch and release so be prepared to be eating a lot of salmon!
Went on a clear, sunny day and there was a large family gathering that had reserved most of the restaurant, but still plenty of space for the rest of us. Beautiful outdoor restaurant and great concept to catch your own meal! I had a fun experience catching my own lunch! I opted to have half my salmon hot smoked and half sashimi'd. The hot smoke only takes about 8 minutes and isn't overdone. Salmon have just enough fight to make you feel like you've earned your meal. Also, the fishing crew came around the lake to give tips to anglers, which I thought was a nice touch to help people out. Parking: Parking lot is gravel
Visited in March 2023 - I was sure I left a review, however, ensuring that I do now. What a great experience. I never fished and while fishing, the staff came by and gave advise on what to do. Johnny was an incredible and friendly member of the staff. My wife and I were visiting for our honey moon and were driving from Wanaka to Tekapo. Definitely the best salmon we've both tried and a very fun experience. Can't thank you all enough! *Side note - there are a lot of bees/wasps by the lake while fishing. None of them stung, but it was interesting dodging bees while fishing. Caught a 1.3kg salmon.
Amazing spot, so much to do, even if not fishing. Staff really went above and beyond, helping unfortunate fishers change their setup so that noone went empty handed. Bar staff were incredibly welcoming too. Food was great. If you want to gorge on Salmon, there's no better way to do it. Kid-friendliness: Kids played for hours in the sandpit with Tonkas and other toys. Food and drinks available to buy for them while awaiting fish. Mini-golf looked good but we were too busy doing other things. Only natural concern is that kids who aren't swimming yet, will need to be watched as there are bodies of water all around.
We arrived nice and early, nabbed an awesome table and the kids loved the beanbags. Staff were so smiley and friendly. Wine was delicious. Anchovies were a bit too salty and the hot chips weren’t the best. But such a great atmosphere. The kids caught a fish each and there was a young guy that worked there called Tyler, he was so helpful and knowledgeable and friendly and make the experience even more wonderful. We took fish home as sashimi, it was delicious and another whole and cooked it for dinner. It was such a great activity for the family and made for a delicious meal. Would recommend to anyone. Maybe just trim back a little on the salt on the meals? Either way, next time we visit, we will be sure to be back!
Great activity for everyone. We opted for fishing option which was $10 per rod at the time we went. Then you pay for the fish based on the weight per kg. Although it took us a while a bit over an hour - some groups were quicker the excitement in our group was unreal. They then had the option to fillet & clean and take home or they can serve it up for you there about 30 mins wait time. Since we had a good amount of fish we got the hot smoked and sashimi options. Recommend this for everyone who wants to try a different activity.
Arrived around 215pm. It wasn’t crowded, we caught a 1.6kg salmon within 5 minutes. The food was prepared within 30 minutes. Absolutely Delicious!! Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The only catch pun intended was that you had the kill the salmon yourself which we as city dwellers weren’t prepared for. Salmon sashimi was slightly tough, and the entire experience cost us about $90 NZD. Very expensive in my opinion, would recommend but probably wouldn’t come back again.
What a beautiful environment to enjoy some delicious salmon! We went on a sunny fall day and plenty of people were sitting outside and fishing for their salmon around the lake. There were a lot of families with their kids and it seems like a fun family activity. My friend and I skipped the fishing since we came here just to eat. We ordered the salmon 3 ways and the cold-smoked salmon white pizza. The salmon 3 ways comes with cold-smoked, hot-smoked cooked until it flakes, and sashimi. My minor gripes are that I feel like the sashimi one needs some soy sauce it was unseasoned and we could have used more bread, but overall I loved the presentation of the dish and really enjoyed the bread and aioli that came with it. For the pizza, it was soft and light like a cloud, and the veggie toppings were very refreshing. We had a whole plate of salmon already and still thought the cold-smoked salmon pizza was the perfect second dish.
