We had a very comfortable stay at Hilton Taupo. It is very centrally located and is a good base to explore the area. The beds were super comfortable and the rooms had everything you needed for a convenient stay. Special thanks to Jomon George whose hospitality made the stay extra special.
I booked a long weekend here for 5 adults and 2 kids. I'm pretty bummed because the online booking wouldn't let us all stay in one room the Presidential Suite. That room is huge and is exactly for 5 adults and 2 kids. Since the online booking wouldn't allow it, we ended up booking one Presidential Suite and another room for an adult. We definitely paid more than we should have. I really hope the Hilton Hotel Taupo can help people booking online get the right number of rooms for their customers. Also, their toiletries weren't even enough; there was no toothpaste or toothbrushes. I had to go buy some for everyone to use. There's a lot they could improve on.
Nice hotel overall, but lacking in hotel-side customer service. While we appreciated the dining room and the folks who worked in there, the location wasn’t ideal a bit of a jaunt from the lake and they did a bait and switch with our room. We prepaid for a lake view with a balcony, making our reservation months in advance. We showed up and were told that we were “upgraded,” only to end up in a room with a view of the hill behind the hotel. We were then told that they were “sold out.” Very disappointing.
Writing this to save time for anyone who is traveling with kids: You will need to get 2 rooms if you have young kids or book a multiple bedroom suite.nnThe website is not clear with this and lists the standard kids stay free using existing bedding on their website. One would think Hilton would provide clarity here.nnLuckily we reached out and cancelled the reservation as we didn’t want to pay 1K per night for 2 rooms vs luxury airbnb for $300/night.nnWas within our day before cancellation so this part was easy
While not a boutique hotel, this Hilton property does exude more architectural charm than most. The section in which our junior suite was located had been recently refreshed to a high standard. New soft and hard furnishings and fixtures made it feel like we were walking into a model apartment. The mountain views out the back were engaging and I am sure the front-facing suites have a glorious vista of Lake Taupo. Front desk service was top-notch, and our welcome note in the room was actually hand-lettered rather than printed using a faux-hand-lettered font. They accommodated a surprisingly early check-in, although I am sure that would not have been possible during the high season. As a result, we were very happy to be able to stow our bags and get briefly settled before heading out to our lake cruise. Breakfast was the usual Hilton affair, with a reasonable selection of fruit, health shots, smoothies, breads, charcuterie, pastries, cereals, antipasti, yogurt, specialty coffee machine, tea station, and hot spread for an up charge.
