We had a great stay. Very welcoming on arrival, clean room and bathroom, comfortable bed and close to everything we wanted. Parking overnight at Te Papa cost $24 and was only 5 minutes walk away. Highly recommend.

It is a hostel and I'm writing this review as someone with realistic expectations.nBest hostel I stayed at in NZnI was in a 4 bed female dorm with its own bathroom.nThe beds had curtains, comfortable mattress and shelves with power points built into the headboard of every bed.nThe beds were also sturdy and is the only hostel I stayed at in NZ where the entire bunk didn't shake when someone rolled over.nIf you haven't stayed in a hostel before then do a little bit of research into hostels, so you have realistic expectations and can avoid having a 1 star experiencenAlso if you have a car check if somewhere has parking before booking. It's extremely rare for a hostel in a city to have parking

At reception I didn't even talk to anyone, just checked in digitally, nobody explained me how things worked there, receptionist kept me waiting when I was in a hurry, and it's a really soulless place like many hostels in CBDs of NZ. In other places they tend to feel cozy, lived in, this is just a clinical environment that doesn't emit any warmth. And they have heavy doors everywhere that keep banging which will wake lighter sleepers up every time and it's grating even awake. Over 50% more expensive than many other hostels in CBD but really doesn't feel like it. Also most areas have no or almost no windows and everywhere super bright white lights even late at night. Really not great if you wanna relax and rest.

Excellent location and friendly, helpful staff. We chose a private room which turned out to be on the top floor with the marvelous view of the bay. The room was Spartan but clean and definitely acceptable. Everything you need was there Including two beds and a private bath. Laundry and many other amenities on site, and the staff was very accommodating with every request. The New World grocery directly across the street has everything you could possibly need. Tons of restaurants and bars nearby, and I highly suggest hitting the nearby coffee shop known as Squirrel for breakfast or light lunch. This is my first experience staying at a Haka House, and I would definitely stay at one again.

first time trying stay at the hotel for 4 nights as a backpacker in a dormitory room. I found reviews not that good but loved to try once which was amazing ,very convenient near bus stops and shops. The bed also private even if share space ,bathroom and toilet with other backpackers and what is more there are washer and dryer on 6th floor
