Dined last night as a group of four. Wait staff was bright and cheerful, and just right for the location. Food was stunning, a smaller menu which is perfect for a remote location, but plenty of variety. Beautifully cooked and rich and complex flavours. We all agreed it was the best meal we’d had in years. Cudos to the the team for such world class food on the tip of an island.
The lodge is a great location next to the Aotea track and inlet which is beautiful. The reason why I was disappointed in my stay was the manager - Jason. He was not hospitable at all. He overcharged my credit card by $665 and still has not refunded it. When we came in for dinner the food was overpriced and fairly average. The management barely knew we were staying there and couldn’t help us with the simplest of tasks such as helping us with a taxi to the port. As beautiful as the place is, it’s not worth it.
Spent a night here years ago after hiking for 1 night, what an amazing place, the setting alone.. but what was even more amazing was the people running it. I was traveling alone and I really appreciated the effort the bar tender went to, hooking me up with the other single traveler so that we'd have company that night and the next day.
Visited the lodge a few times for dancing and dinner. The customer service is incredibly friendly and welcoming. The dinner was delightful – the flavours and ingredients harmonised beautifully, and the homemade touch made it exceptionally tasty! Great team, thank you to our beautiful Bre, Lou and the amazing owner Jason & his family. We’ll definitely be back more often
Awesome ! Doesn't come close to my experience. Phenomenal is all I have to say absolutely loved it ! Rooms: Very well organized. Nearby activities: Fishing was off the hook Safety: Didn't cross my mind, I was having too much fun Walkability: Loved it, especially the end. Lol Food & drinks: Algood
Lovely owners, if you need something just ask. Food is good, not high cuisine but decent food nevertheless. Rooms are nice, what you'd expect so not very high end. Free wifi, main attraction is beautiful location and setting. Highly recommend to try out great barrier and the lodge is a good place to start! They are also well stocked for packaged food and beverages but don't expect cooked dinner unless prearranged
Wonderful hosts, warm, attentive and helpful. Magnificent location and views. Delicious meals, the fresh fruitsalad at breakfast is A+, well stocked library, bar and snacks. The bed and pillow fresh and comfy, cooking facilities and kitchen well equipped, good water pressure and no shortage of hot water. Lots of deck space for socializing and enjoying the exquisite ancient pohutukawas, birdlife and relaxing into the moment.
We had a large group of happy go lucky males from the deep south staying 3 nights with Jason and his crew. The hospitality was exceptional right from bags down as we eased into Island life. No fishing on day two so we took Jason up on his offer of an Island tour in his 20 seater bus. Windy Canyon was the first destination , A steep stair climb was rewarded by fantastic views and a debrief before heading off to the lunch spot. A tasty packed lunch and chilled down beers set us up to head off to the next surprise , Ask Jase about his Tangi Tours , we didn't last long there before heading back to the lodge for an afternoon in the sun on the newly built rear deck. The food from the kitchen was delicious and well timed as we laughed the hours away leading up to the rugby match where we were joined by some of the locals. Thank you very much Jason and team , everyone had an exceptional time. We'll bring the wives and kids back next time!
Awesome location with great views, especially for sunsets. We stayed in 4 of the lodges and it worked great for the 14 of us who were here. The kayak hire was great, and the water by the lodge was nice and fairly flat, so super easy to kayak on. The restaurant was super busy each night, so if you are going to go definitely book.
What a fantastic place to restore energy in nature. A beautiful, peaceful location. Housing has everything you need. Great swimming right in front. Excellent boating and fantastic hosts. Lovely all round Rooms: 5/5
