Nice, spacious traditional pub. Great place for traditional English ale. Quality of food fluctuates significantly, but you won't go hungry.
Grandmother had a milestone birthday at Galbraith's and many family and friends got together for it. The atmosphere is pretty standard alehouse vibes but you don't fix what ain't broke, it's lovely here. The food is so yummy, I got the medium rare steak and duck fat chips and it was mouth watering. The beer ain't bad either. Nothing flash but we all had such a lovely time here and the staff were next level at being accommodating and kind. I would strongly recommend Galbraith's for parties and functions because the staff treat you very well, that is the highlight for me.
Customer Service. 5/5 - The service was quick, professional and so friendly. This is what makes this bar Special. I felt welcomed. Plus the beer is excellent. So what went wrong Food is pricey. $18 for three chicken wings. This is an extortionist price. Also there were 100s of flies buzzing around the bar, on the taps, walls and flying on my pint. This isn’t a good look.
Love this place. One of the only places where you can get a decent pint of English Bitter. Love the food that is a bit more than pub grub and the menu changes seasonally. Like most hospitality places having a tough time lately with staff turnover, absences due to sickness and new staff learning the ropes.
Solid, decent Sunday roast. Amazing outdoor area. Good beer selection & their own Munich helles lager is good. Prices have gone up recently, unstandable, tho its pretty steep, but still worth it.
The indoor bar is tired and worn-out looking; the person working behind the bar did not know how to make a basic cocktail ordered off the menu which I do not blame on the young bar worker, but on management for not providing proper training; although they have a good range, including styles not typical in New Zealand, the beer is expensive and served in "pint" glasses which look to hold around 400ml I enquired about the exact size of the glasses, but none of the staff knew. Once upon a time this was a good pub to visit - this was my first time back in a few years, and I will not be returning in a hurry.
Food was really nice... But the blond haired lady who served us was so rude and so grumpy looking. A smile wouldn't hurt... That's part of the service... When we said thank you in the end when we finished, she just ignored us... But the guy in the bar was really nice... But it just made for an unpleasant experience that's why it's a 2star for me...
Great choice of House Ales and Beers. Amazing place with classic vintage feel and ambience. Outdoor seating area is awesome + Inside seating is great too. Great food, nibbles and drinks. Must visit.
Roast on a Sunday - who wants a Sunday roast. Took me a minute to find a place that does a Sunday roast in the CBD that didn't cost an arm and a leg and lo and behold I found one! It did the trick and looking forward to trying the rest of the menu. Speedy service and great heritage building.
Had a meal here approx 1 month ago and food was great. Came back last night and the menu had changed, we ordered 2 sirloin steaks and the fish tacos. After last night I wouldn't eat there again. The so called 250g cut of sirloin was almost double and wasn't sirloin yet a rectangle cube of rump or a worse cut. Requested both to be cooked medium rare, to which both came out rate and cut in half so even if we wanted it chucked in the pan for a minute longer it would have ended up worse. Now you would think rare sirloin would be nice and tender and not chewing on ya dogs ol chew toy. Well somehow they managed that and neither of us could chew a tiny piece of meat till we could swallow it. It was unedible and the fish tacowas basically tinned pineapple and its juice with burnt grilled fish. Wondering if the kitchen are taste testing the ale as also last night someone forgot to add beef into the beef lasagne which came out to a massive table
