It’s a great lookout point looking over the port on one side and Portobello in the other. It’s a short walk if you park on George Street before the Mount street crossing. You can also park on Grey street or Scotia street. The last stretch of Aurora street has no parking till the flagstaff itself where 4-5 cars can be parked. The view towards the wharfs is nice and clear. If you go towards the Hotere garden, there’s a nice bench with a fantastic view. From there, there are multiple trails going down towards the Peninsula Beach road.
Great wee lookout to view Port Chalmers comings and goings - cruise ships, container ships, pilots, tugs and ferries. Limited parking available
Stopped in on a cruise and walked up. Lovely view and I learnt about the time ball and its roll 150 years ago. I would never have thought!!
Easy drive, parks at the lookout point. The view was great for watching the ships coming in and being loaded/unloaded as well as looking out to sea.
