Fantastic day. Starting with the picturesque train station then very comfortable seats and large windows. We didn't realize there were assigned seats so we got separated from some in our party. But we were able to walk around and change seats of we liked. The cafe car has wine, beer, and sandwiches for purchase. Delicious. They let us get off the train in the middle so we could see and photograph the train going over the bridge.
Great coastal ride to Merton with great commentary which was interesting. Excellent that they had cheaper prices for the locals SO that swayed us lots to get in there and explore and support local service. Food and drinks were expensive and limited variety $12.00 for a pie NO THANX lucky we were there for the tour and not food. Totally recommend
Great wee scenic trip thru to Merton following the coast line , the commentaries were interesting and were constant. Great to see that they supported the locals by giving a discounted price so made it more economical. Food and drink were over priced and very limited options . Would recommend
Great trip, but takes a full 5 hours to go Dunedin-Pukarangi-Dunedin. You see a unique gorge, enjoy a 3 walks one midway through each direction and one at the turn-around in Pukerangi. If you like classic trains you don't have to love them and aren't afraid of heights, this is a perfect way to spend your day. You do go over some quite high viaducts. The dining car has reasonably priced food and beverages inc. wine, beer, and cocktails.nnWe were able to walk up 20 minutes before the train left at 9:30am and get tickets. Train was 1/2 full.
A great day trip out of Dunedin.nComfy seating, very scenic and informative trip, nice to be told a few stories along the way.nWas nice to have reserved seating so no rushing to best seat etc.nThe check in could have been better as line up was in a circle and no one knew what was going on, then 1 line turned into 2 for different trains.nApart from that, we all really enjoyed.nWas nice seeing the wee stalls at Pukurangi also .
