Interesting, vibrant home ware and fashion and that uses environmentally and socially responsible materials and processes.
You may not be aware of the social and environmental costs of the textile industry but they are huge. Take cotton, its 2% of the world's crop but at least 16%- 25% of the most dangerous and persistent pesticide use.
When you know that kids pick a third of our cotton and the exposure they get to the pesticides effects their eyes to the point where they see white, it make bargain tees begin to look more like a crime than a wardrobe extra.
Not to mention the 5c per Tee shirt workers get to sew them up. Or the western retail workers who we are seeing, starting to get nervous system disorders and dementia from handling fabrics and clothes. Yep you read that right, sick from unpacking clothes with chemicals added to them.
What we wear and have in our homes is an intimate part of our lives and so lets make sure they are safe for us, reflect our values, and protect the earth and our children for the generations to come.
We are currently seeing what biologists are calling the sixth extinction, so we have to start waking up, paying more, taking a bit of inconvenience, and changing our habits to ensure we don't make it worse.
