Toi Maori Art Market is an iconic biennial event, showcasing contemporary Maori art produced by Toi Maori Market Limited a subsidiary of Toi Maori Aotearoa
Due to the earthquakes the 2016 Market has been postponed to Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th March 2017.
Toi Maori Art Market showcases the best contemporary Maori art under the same roof for two days. Members of the public can view the best that Aotearoa has to offer, as well as having the opportunity to purchase works for themselves.
In addition to the art works for sale, there is an extensive public programme of demonstrations of artists at work and presentation by artists about their work.
There will be live music and theatre in the Toi Maori Theatre.
It all started as part of the `Eternal Thread' exhibition in San Francisco under the name of `Maori Art Meets America'. That exhibition has since become history with the sailing of a Maori war canoe under the Golden Gate Bridge and the dawn ceremony launch of Maori art at the Yerba Buena Arts Centre in San Francisco. Americans asked where they could purchase the art in New Zealand and that gave rise to MAORI MARKet at the ASB Arena in Wellington City in 2007
