I concur with the general consensus. While I attempted to avoid taking my daughter to Dunedin Hospital, my GP insisted it was an emergency and we had no choice. Upon arrival, she was examined and deemed to be in good health. However, five days later, the Urgent Doctors referred her back to the emergency department. It is concerning that the hospital staff did not take her condition seriously and left us waiting in the waiting room for an extended period. This is not the first time we have experienced such delays, and it is evident that there are management issues within the emergency department. Even in developing countries, patients are not treated in this manner. Considering Dunedin's population of 130,000, it is perplexing that they are seeking to construct a new hospital. There are two potential solutions: either replace the current staff with new personnel or transfer them to a larger city like Auckland, bringing in staff from there to Dunedin. This would help identify the root cause of the problems.
My wife just had our second baby via c-section. All of the doctors, surgeons, anaesthesiologists and midwives were great. Unfortunately only 90% of of the nurses were great. One senior nurse was belittled my wife's pain and critisied her so much for seeking help that she didn't want to ring the bell again. Awful woman with 0/10 bedside manner.
Kia ora! If you're looking for the best place to have your baby in Dunedin, head to Dunedin Hospital's Queen Mary Maternity Ward. It's in the main hospital building on the second floor – just follow the signs once you're inside.nQueen Mary Maternity Ward is split into three parts: there's a spot for mums-to-be to get checked before birth, a delivery area with seven cozy suites, and a post-birth space where you and your baby will be looked after.nGood news if you're planning a water birth – some of the suites have tubs! How cool is that?nVisiting hours for family excluding dads are from 2pm to 8pm. Plus, you can nominate one extra person besides your partner to stay with you or visit whenever they like.nAnd here's a helpful tip: if English isn't your first language and you're finding it tough, don't worry. You can ask for a free interpreter. It's all part of the service.nBefore you leave, don't forget to ask for a free handmade wool cap for your baby. They're made by kind folks in the community and given out as a special gift.nSo, if you're expecting in Dunedin, Dunedin Hospital's Queen Mary Maternity Ward is the place to be. It's got everything you need for a happy, healthy start. Cheers to that!
Worst experience, Went to ED last night from Balclutha for our 1 year old son, wait there for 6 hours, no doctor there, Another thing they don't have room for patient they let us in the stay with same ward where covid positive patients were waiting. Honestly it was my first time to go Dunedin ED going and it is the worst experience of my life.
It took 7 hours for a dr to see a 13 month old baby in ED. Do they only have 1 dr in there? Worst hospital I have ever been to. And I have been to a third world country. That says a lot
