Went to Dixie Browns twice over the last year. First time we were stopping through from Wellington and just looking for a family meal. We stopped for pizza and some mains. The desserts looked good but we had to keep going. I kept the place in mind for a trip back with the kids again. The next visit things were much busier and it was difficult to get a table, a bit of a wait on food but otherwise good the only thing was we thought we saw a donut in the dessert cabinet, ordered a donut and it turned out to be a cheesecake. They were very busy though and mistakes can happen they don’t do donuts at all. All good. The strawberry shake definitely was a hit. I enjoyed the pork belly and the tequila chicken. The peanut butter brûlée was great and the cheesecake was actually great though the person who ordered the donut doesn’t like cheesecake
Food and service was great. The portion was big for me and the service staffs were genuinely polite and serving with passions. The main drawback is kids are roaming around the place like as if they are at the playground, shouting and chasing each other. It amaze me that there was no accidental collisions with the servers. Of course, not sure if this is the normal in NZ.
Girls weekend in Taupo, thought we'd check out Dixie Browns & I'm so glad we did. Beautiful meals, drinks & atmosphere. The service was phenomenal! We arrived earlier than our booking time. Lovely lady at the door welcomed us and found us a table even though it was a very busy Saturday night. Sachim was also amazing with excellent service, patience and overall kindness. The porkbelly was divine and the girls absolutely loved their meals too. We appreciated you and your team looking after us and will be back again.
After checking reviews my expectations was high, upon arrival through the doors it stunk very strongly of seafood dishes and then no one ushered us to a table as door instructed, so we sat outside and we was forgotten about and had to wave at a waitress to take our order and 1.5 hours later we finally ate our meal. We then ordered a drink for take away and over 20 minutes later after asking where it was I got it soon after. Customer service all round was terrible, the tomato sauce on the pizza was very average. Food other than that was edible but not great. The chocolate shake on the other hand was something to remember. I suggest getting some csr sorted and touch ups with food and you will be dandy.
My family and I visited Dixie Brown for the first time recently by accident on the 19th of Jan and I am glad to say it was a very good accident indeed. Before I get to the good part of our experience, unfortunately there were some negatives. As we entered in, our family was forced to enter into the restaurant again as they could not check our vaccine passes at our table. The waitress then took us around and we got to seat at the exact table we chose at the very beginning. The unfortunate part was that the family at the next table had their vaccine passes checked right at the table. There was some obvious discrimination there by the female staff. Also, its very difficult to get service at the table, and we were not given any cutlery or serviettes with our meals. Please bring the cutlery along with our meal. It also would be recommended to have some type of service device on tables as it is very challenging to get service especially during peak times. Now to the good parts and there is more than one! Our main server George was absolutely amazing, we experienced some great customer service from him. He was attentive, friendly and talkative. He is a perfect example of what excellent customer service should be and how it should be exhibited. Now to the most important part... THE FOOD!!! We initially went in thinking we would order drinks. We had the Irish coffee, Death by chocolate, lemonade and ginger ale. The Irish coffee is highly highly recommended by my Mom and Mom just wants to go back for more. All their drinks, spot on. We then had a look at the menu and decided to order some deserts. We had the cheesecake and waffles. One negative was that the dishes were too sweet, the syrup on the waffles would be better on the side rather than pre-poured on the plate. Just so the customer can choose the amount they want. The cheesecake was to die for, also very sweet but definitely worth it. At this moment we were having such a good experience we decided to look at the dinner menu. Let me tell you, we would have regretted making that decision if we had walked out after the desserts. We ordered the special that day which was the Lobster tail and rather than eye fillet we replaced it with the fish. Excellent no complains there, highly enjoyable and worth it. We also had the BBQ chicken pizza, it was smokey, it was cheesy, it was crispy. Again very highly recommended. This place is definitely recommended for anyone who visits Taupo even if its for drinks.
Popped in for a late lunch so it wasn’t really crowded. Got the cottage pie, was not bad, but the grease gets to you about midway through it so I didn’t finish it. Kumara fries were not bad too, love that that was sweet chilli with it ̈ husband has the fish of the day which was a little on the tough side, also super soaked in butter so that was a bit eurgh but he finished his food so it must have been good enough.
Brilliant food and service was great. Definitely will be on our list of go to places. I had the Belgian waffles and my partner had bacon and eggs. Love how they do their hot chocolate and my partner got a flat white and he is fussy with coffee but throughly enjoyed this 1. There lunch menu looked great so have to try lunch next time we come back through.
The ribs we had to share were SO good! Steak with scallops and salmon with scallop stack were absolutely amazing as well. More on the expensive side, but honestly worth it. I also had a Kiwi Cocktail, refreshing and yummy!Food: 5/5
Our trip to Dixie wasn't too impressed this time. The drinks came fast but we waited way too long for our food to arrive. The Cafe wasn't busy at all but the kitchen was so slow. My breakfast toast was burned and the poached eggs were dry from bring stored in the food warmer. They changed my poached eggs but there's no point to ask for more when all my families already finished their meals. It was bad experience compared with our previous visit. I was charged full price, then my husband requested a refund of my breakfast.
Ate dinner here last night and breakfast this morning. Portions are big, so be careful how much you order! Had BBQ ribs last night, scrambled eggs, bacon, toast this morning with chocolate milkshake very good. Service is excellent, very busy place.Food: 5/5
