Amazing weekend, We love to come to coromandel, beautiful beaches and the truck is not super hard I think almost everyone can do that.
This is a delightful area. Unfortunately for me the Hot Water Beach Road was flooded out, so I have not been able to get to Cathedral Cove, so I have gone exploring elsewhere today.
Well my first time experience i loved it only thing missing was a tent..Then i would of wanted to live there.
This place has arguably the best beaches in New Zealand. Every drive along the beach is memorable and mesmerising. The places like Cathedral Cove and Thames and Haehai beach are one example. This is a must place visit if your visiting New Zealand from outside.
saw the milky way with my bare eyes, no telescope needed. Went to the geothermal beach for a soak at low tide. Hiked and loved everything except the curvy ride on the wrong side of the road from Auckland.
Very disappointed. Small area, bad service, not much to do. To get to Cathedral cove you need to either use a bus bus stop doesn’t have parking near by or a water taxi and pay $30 NZ one way. Places close early and open late. It’s been a waste of my time honestly.
Tairua, best place to be, stunning fishing etc, been going there since 1958, always loved the place
Coromandel Peninsula is one of the best places to visit in Northern New Zealand. A sublime world, away from the city’s hustle-bustle, Coromandel Peninsula is a paradise for complacent people who look for peace around them. The beaches here are famous for their golden sand. Indulge in hiking, kayaking, and skydiving at this New Zealand tourist attraction. Ritz Factor: A surreal world away from the hustle. Don’t Miss: Thames – a small city famous for its gold mining history; and the Hot Water Beach – dig your own hot water pool here. How to reach: By air: Auckland Airport is the closest you can get to Coromandel Peninsula by air. Local flights take 30 minutes to reach Whitianga Coromandel Peninsula from Auckland. The peninsula is 1.5 hour drive from Auckland by road. By road: The scenic drive from Auckland, Hamilton or Rotorua Airport is very well connected by intercity buses and cars. The drive from Auckland takes almost 1.5 hour. By ferry: Regular ferries operate from Auckland to Coromandel town. The 2-hour ride is one of the most exciting things to do in the North Island region. Best time to visit: September – November Stay options: Anchor Lodge Coromandel, Aotearoa Lodge, Beachfront Resort, and Beachside Resort Whitianga Location: Kaimarama 3591, New Zealand Coromandel Peninsula, peninsula, east-central North Island, New Zealand. Extending into the South Pacific Ocean for 70 miles 110 km and averaging 20 miles in width, the promontory is bordered by the Firth of Thames and Hauraki Gulf to the west and the Bay of Plenty to the east. The Coromandel Range 90 miles long rises to 2,926 feet 892 metres at Mount Moehau on the peninsula and to 3,126 feet at Mount Te Aroha farther south. Captain James Cook landed on the east coast’s Mercury Bay to observe the transit of that planet in 1769. One of the area’s largest settlements, Whitianga, lies on the Bay of Plenty. Coromandel, the second major settlement and site of gold discovery in 1852, lies to the west. In the second half of the 19th century the peninsula’s dense forests were systematically cut down. The promontory supports sheep and dairy farms and is a favourite area for tourists from Auckland. The island’s terrain rises to a central mountain range a continuation of the South Island range, which parallels the east coast. The range reaches its highest point at the volcanic Mount Ruapehu 9,176 feet [2,797 metres] within Tongariro National Park designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1990. Rainfall, heaviest in the winter months, tends to be more evenly distributed than it is on South Island. North Island has the great majority of the national population and is gaining an increasingly larger proportion, concentrated in the vicinity of the major urban areas, Wellington the national capital and Auckland. Area 44,872 square miles 116,219 square km. Pop. 2006 3,059,418; 2012 est. 3,394,000.

New Zealand is the most wonderful place and it doesn't matter where you go on the North or South Islands the experience of just being there is very powerful. Not too distant from Auckland is the Coromandel Peninsular which is the most beautiful, green and unspoiled place. Wonderful to drive through and it is essential to keep an eye open for the brilliant seafood places located near the road. Some of them are simple structures but the food is great. Sit and have a half lobster as fresh as anything and revel in the scenery. It is a very green and verdant place. The place sets you up for the experience of the rest of New Zealand and even if you stayed exploring the peninsular it would be special. You have to adapt to the 'loneliness' of the place as traffic is very light and you can travel for miles without seeing anyone. New Zealand is a 'memory factory' and never disappoints. The peninsular sets you up for the rest of the wonders of the country.
