We are a community lead group, that teaches seed to table principles e.g. for Fraser Crescent School children. In Jan 2011, this was only grass. ;-)
"We are an enthusiastic group, open to anyone from the Elderslea area, in Upper Hutt. We are setting up a communitty garden in Clyma Park with the aim of growing vegetables, flowers, herbs, fruit trees, berries and to improve the look of the surrounding park etc. Anyone who wants to grow more vegetables and fruit, eat vegetables and fruit, learn about growing organic food, make friends in the Elderslea comunity, get fit and healthy through this group can join. Any culture, age and ability is very welcome!
Clyma Park Community Garden was initiated by Rachael and Konrad Hickson and a committee formed in January 2011. The group is a non-for-profit and all members are voluntary. The Upper Hutt City Council have been very supportive from day one, to the point where we now have 8 raised beds. They have given us permission for stage 1 of 2 and assisted with water supply to the area.
Fraser Crescent School is also closely involved, with 50+ students joining the Fraser Crescent Garden Group.Exciting stuff!"
