A great way to end the week, make new friends, and enjoy homegrown music.
We vary our concerts and encourage local performers along, as well as regularly hosting international visiting artists and groups. This level of diversity brings to our audiences a broad range of musical experience, in addition to the myriad educational opportunities inherent in cultural exchange.
The Folk Club acknowledges the role of music as one of the most popular forms of leisure and relaxation across all realms of our society, given its broad appeal and the potential to break through language, generational and cultural barriers. We aim to provide both a safe place to start performing in the public arena and an equally attractive platform for the more sophisticated performers to showcase their work. The Club sees one of its major roles as that of a catalyst for musicians to further develop their performance skills.
The Club has introduced new initiatives over the past year to increase its financial support and foster the development of children and youth talent within our Club and community. This year we have successfully introduced Kids Open Mics, an opportunity for young people to star on stage with a supportive audience and all the technical paraphernalia needed to give them a professional experience. We have also introduced variety concerts where performers have generously donated their talents, with the proceeds supporting club projects.
