We stayed for 3 nights in a two-level room single bed downstairs and a double bed upstairs. As a budget option, we kept our expectations realistic and overall we were pleasantly surprised.nnThe room had good space to move around, the bathroom was clean enough, and all the essentials were there—the TV worked with freeview and the kitchen included a microwave and fridge. Sam at reception was friendly and the room service was good.nnThe location is super close to Lower Hutt shops and the motorways, yet surprisingly very quiet. Loved our 2 min early morning walk to WIld Bean for coffee. We also appreciated that the free parking area was fully lit throughout the night making us feel safe driving in and out late at nite/early in the morning.nnWhile I can totally understand some of the negative reviews and seeing how the motel could benefit from a bit of sprucing up, it delivered well for the price. If you're after a five-star hotel experience, this will not be the place for you. But for value, location, comfort and a quiet home away from home, our expectations were more than met. 4 out of 5 for the rooms leaving 1 star as space for improvement.nnThank you Sam and team.
Not recommended motel. We specifically booked 2 wheelchair-accessible rooms and I even called beforehand to clearly confirm that we needed wheelchair access. But when we arrived, they initially tried to give us an upstairs room. Thankfully they changed it after I explained again, but only one room had an accessible toilet — the other was just a normal room. Even the doors were not properly accessible and there were no ramps, so we had to lift the wheelchair and keep transferring the patients from place to place.nnWe were travelling with 2 wheelchair users and a lot of medical equipment, so accessibility was very important. Unfortunately, the rooms were old and not truly wheelchair-friendly as advertised.nnI understand that we were slightly delayed during checkout because of problems with our equipment, and I admit that part was our fault. But the manager’s attitude was extremely rude and unprofessional. When I politely asked if we could wait outside the room for just 10 minutes while waiting for our van and support staff, he refused and said they had already done us “many favors.” The accessible room issue was their mistake in the first place.nnBecause of this, I had to carry our things one by one outside near reception while assisting two wheelchair patients. It was very stressful and upsetting. Hospitality staff should treat guests with kindness and understanding, especially when dealing with people with disabilities.nnVery poor customer service, poor accessibility, and a very disappointing experience overall. Never again. I will rate tgis motel and tge guy manager negative 0 !!!!
Terrible experience from start to finish. We were given incorrect information during the booking process and were misled into booking two accessible rooms. Upon arrival, we discovered that the rooms were not actually wheelchair friendly. Only one room had an accessible bathroom, while the other was just a standard room.nnThere was never any front desk staff available when needed. The property was filthy, and despite staying for four nights, no cleaning was done at all. Housekeeping was extremely poor.nnTo make matters worse, the manager was rude and threatened to charge us for an extra day because we were a few minutes late checking out due to issues with our disability equipment. While we understand the policy regarding checkout times, a little empathy and understanding would have gone a long way.nnOverall, an extremely disappointing and stressful experience. I would rate this place 0 stars.
Looking at the reviews given here, I would say the owners of this motel have taken these comments on board, and made some measures to improve the standards, and we were very satisfied with our accomodation. We stayed in room 10, 20, and 22 which all had fantastic shower pressure. I initially booked 3 standard twin rooms, but the owner upgraded one of our rooms to a room with a kitchen knowing we had 7 adults and two toddlers in our group which we were very grateful for. They never promised a 5 star facility, but we feel we were given 3 well presented, tidy rooms with comfortable beds, good showers and clean facilities. Despite the language barrier, the cleaner who we requested extra towels from was very pleasant to deal with and I witnessed him assisting other guests without a fuss with their requests. I read a number of negative reviews about this place, but I have nothing but appreciation to share to the owner and his team. Abundant blessings with your future travellers to Champers Motor Inn and thank you for the accommodation.
A good budget motel. Clean and convenient. You can cast to the tv on their wifi. The beds do need replacing as a bit sunken in. Good shower and kitchenette. We were in a two bedroom unit. Parking was convenient. Have stayed here twice now.
