The short way to the globe for us with a wheelchair user from St Pancras is not to get the lift down to the tube level but to the street level them go past Starbucks and head left to the end of St pancreas , as you go through the doors at the end their is a short lift down journey then another lift to the circle line to Blackfriars’s, come out the station and go over the Blackfriars’s bridge and the then head left behind the Tate Modern the a left by the Amazon Basics supermarket and you will arrive at the Globe theatre main entrance. We made the mistake of asking for the disabled entrance and were sent down the. Side of the Globe , the. Asked another security guard who walked us back to the Main entrance and showed us the lift to the right of the entrance, it’s small and quiet right but fitted us and 3 children. We came to The Globe to see As you like by the CBeebies cast . We had booked seats on the wooden benches to the left of the stage , so we were able to leave our wheelchair as our daughter can walk a bit, the performance was only gonna be 45 mins so we opted to not pay for the cushions to sit on , but if you go for a longer show I would definitely pay the extra as sitting on wood hurts after a will with no backrests . We found our seats ok and we’re ready for the show. Note downstairs seats have no backs on them , so if you have a back issue, I would sit upstairs. The show itself was very good with all the CBeebies cast including Andy, Justin , captain Captain and Gemma from the pirate show, we knew we would have a pillar in the way of the performance but we saw most of the show, they don’t use mics due to the acoustics of the Globe but I struggled with this as I wear hearing aids and missed some dialogue , it was definitely a unique experience, my children loved the show and bumped into some of the cast after the show, the shop is well stocked but hard to get a wheelchair in and about and the fridge magnets with the globe name on are by the till. There are 2 disabled toilets one near the shop and 1 past the men’s toilets at the end of the corridor. Overall the show was great but the sound was an issue for me . That’s why only 4 stars
The Globe is a whole experience: Not just the incredible theatre pieces they create, but the food and drink on-site restaurants for pre-theatre dining, and now you can pre-order drinks to take to your seat!, the well-curated gift shop, and the historical setting of the theatre itself - open-air, on the banks of the Thames. It is such a wonderful treat to spend an evening here!
This beautiful theatre is a reconstruction of the original open air theatre on the bank of the river Thames in London. Many of Shakespeare's plays were first performed at this place. It currently has a capacity of 1400 spectators as per modern safety standards.
I visited the Globe theatre at the weekend for a tour - paid for by Tesco Clubcard vouchers. This lasted around 50 minutes and was interesting and well presented. This was followed by a £5 ticket to stand in the yard to see The Tempest. The play itself was well acted by the cast but standing for over 2 hours is hard. I was lucky to be standing at the back leaning against a post. If you’re not as young as you’d like to be.. it may be worth paying more to have a seat!
The Globe is AMAZING.... Henry VIII is NOT! Wait until there is something else on. Wish I'd read the Timeout or th Evening Standard reviews first.. Amature hour at its worst.. If you though your kids school Christmas nativity was well acted and brilliantly produced then this is probably for you
I saw Henry VIII just a few nights ago. We had the £5 yard tickets and would 100% do it again. You're standing the whole time, but if you get there early enough you can get a spot leaning against the back wall or right up front and lean on the stage. I was up at the stage and it was so amazing seeing the show so close up the actress who was playing Henry VIII's first wife Catherine was absolutely incredible! Her performance was so moving and beautiful!. I also did the tour of the theater. It wasn't quite what I was expecting, but still good. I have done other tours of theaters and was shown things you wouldn't be able to see with just going to a show Ex. Backstage, costume rooms, prop rooms, etc. This is more of a knowledge based tour. We sat in a couple different spots in the seating area of the theater and learned lots of interesting facts. Worth doing forsure, but just not quite what I thought it was going to be.
This guided tour was one of the best tours I have ever been on. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and took me back hundreds of years to feel like I was there in the Globe's heyday! I would have taken the tour over again if I could.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Gorgeous theatre. Seating is just wooden tiers, so not the most comfortable, but it's designed on the original so it's to be expected. Would suggest pre-ordering interval drinks as there were big, slow moving queues.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Great venue and excellent staging of Shakespeare classics. The production of Much Ado About Nothing in September 2022 was vibrant, refreshing and featured some excellent audience participation.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Tour guide Mark was brilliant. If you love Shakespeare then you will enjoy this. If you have children then probably best to book a family tour as talk is in depth and my 12 year old has only just started studying this so some bits were a bit beyond her. I learnt so much and he made it relevant and engaging. Really want to see a play there now. Going on a Sunday lunchtime was good as it wasn't crowded.
