Story

I teach capoeira to private groups or individuals for sessions. I practice Capoeira Angola, which is the more traditional capoeira and regional/contemporized style. I am most heavily influenced by an Angola master by Mestre Joao Grande (student of Mestre Pastinha) and his students and showtime styles. And in Regional by Muzenza, Capoeira Brasil, Cordao de Ouro lineage, and Axe Capoeira.

My name is Coach Andarilho (Tony) I'm an athlete/ personal/group trainer for capoeira, a coach for gymnastics, and an ISO certified health club manager. I first started to learn capoeira in 1999 with the ginga (base movement) and macaco (monkey flip). I went to Brazil in 2001 to train and have trained with many of the best masters in the world. I have learnt both Regional and Angola Styles. Angola is generally slower and lower and Regional is generally faster with more flips and fighting style. Doing both gives us more to work with. Capoeira incorporates Asian martial art kicks, gymnastics, musical aspects, dance, play, trickery, instruments, and other aspects to the physical game. I believe that a lot of people become interested in capoeira for the amazing flips that the crowds love and the Showtime style. But players often grow to love Angola, which has a very rich beauty to the music and interaction of the players. And I believe is a much more complex game to learn but well worth it.

Capoeira will teach you many things and if you are interested you can follow this page, or ask for a private session or private group class if you have a group interested. Rates for individuals is $65 for a 2-hour session with a one session minimum. I'm in Dunedin, New Zealand. Unlike a big group, you pay for one on one time, a class tailored for you, and my experience. Group rates depend on numbers and what type of training you are looking for.
