Fighting the National Fight against Cancer!
Central Districts Division covers from the East to West Coasts and from the most northern points of Te Araroa and Taranaki to Otaki in the south.
Within the Division are our five centres: Gisborne-East Coast, Hawke's Bay, Manawatu, Taranaki, and Wanganui–Rangitiki-Waimarino with a combined population of over ½ million people.
The Regional Cancer Treatment Service is based at Palmerston North Hospital (Midcentral District Health Board). Special accommodation for cancer patients receiving treatment and their families is provided at Ozanam House in Palmerston North through a joint trust run by the Cancer Society’s Manawatu Centre and St Vincent de Paul Society.
Most Cancer Society services are provided and organised from the five centers including:
• Supportive care, transport and cancer information services
• Promoting health and well-being, prevention & early detection of cancer. We support the national Smokefree, sun protection and 'Get the Tools' (Men's health) programme and campaigns
• Advocacy for healthy public policy, high standard cancer services and patient access in our region.
Cancer Research – Central Districts Research Trust Fund was established in 2000 to increase donations for cancer research. All funds donated go to research and any administration costs of the trust are covered by the division.
Annual Scholarship - advertised and awarded annually to applicants working in cancer services in the Central Districts region. Scholarships are for professional development for health care professionals, development of a special interest/expertise in the cancer field or any proposal that would benefit the control of cancer in the Central Districts region.
