Free to enter, family focused zoo

Story

Brooklands Zoo is a free to enter, family focused zoo which is home to Asian short clawed otters, meerkats, Cotton-top Tamarins, Tufted capuchin monkeys, Bolivian squirrel monkeys and a Brolga crane, as well as a selection of colourful exotic parrots housed inside a walk-through free-flight aviary, a variety of farmyard animals and a small selection of reptiles and amphibians.

Open 9am to 5pm seven days a week, except Christmas Day.

Facilities: Wheelchair and pushchair access, playground, sun shade, toilets and picnic tables. Coffee cart at weekends and in school holidays (weather permitting)

Amazing place to visit. Plenty of interesting animals and birds. Great playground for children. Short walk from Pukekura Park. It's a credit to New Plymouth, and it's free. Very impressed.
How great is New Plymouth for having this cute little Zoo for free. It is such a great place to take children. No, it doesn't have elephants and tigers but there is plenty with which to amuse and educate children. The walk-through aviary was very cool!
A good distraction even though it was very wet. Doesn't seem to be as many animals now as remembered from previous visits.
Jan2021Surprised at this little gem. Busy with little ones and their adults, taking in some very interesting animals within very well kept environments. There's a place to picnic with shade, or pop out to the gardens.

It was lovely and peaceful this morning just after rain and the sunshine came out and so did the animals. Lovely playground too.
Seriously LOVED this place! How cool is it that New Plymouth has a free zoo! The animals were well looked after and seemed super happy - they were so interactive! Love the monkeys ... my absolute fave... Thank you New Plymouth, we loved our visit and can't wait to come back
It's free!! We were behind a couple of families with small children. They were absolutely delighted with the animals and birds they saw.
What a great little zoo! Allows children to get close without disturbing the animals. Great enclosures, animals look like they are loved and well cared for by the staff. Excellent playground and a small caravan with coffee and ice cream for purchase. A nice place to spend a couple of hours with the kids...and it's free!!
