This place is a GEM! You really should stop by if you're around. The park is stunning and the gardeners do an amazing job maintaining it. Really nice to learn about the family who lived there before. You can also visit the house with a guide, and there are barbecues in the lower part of the park by the river.
Beautiful gardens and Chapman Taylor arts and craft house. Stunning planting, paths, ponds, peaceful garden rooms....take your time and wander down to the river fields and bbq / picnic areas. Be warned the garden is on the side of a gentle hill which means a steep walk back to the car - but it's worth it! Wonderful!
It’s free entry and it is quite a peaceful garden to visit. There are some steep paths down though so better be careful not to slip
A must visit park when in New Plymouth, free for visitors to see the beauty of the area with a well maintained garden.
Stunning house and easy access to river. Great spot to cool off on a hot day.
This hidden little gem is well worth the visit Ive driven past the sign so many times thinking I wonder what there and it beautiful and memorable
Absolutely amazing garden! Enjoy every piece of it!
On a rainy day, this was still fun with rain jackets and umbrellas for the family. The house isn't open, only for tours, but the gardener's cottage is open. An old dial telephone rings and you can listen to an old lady's memories of the house, there is pretty old wallpaper, complimentary booklets on the history of the house, and the garden of the house. There was a TV from the Olden days, running a home video from 1948. There are old books on the shelves such that a gardener might need. There was an accounts book on the desk. The gardens are pretty, lots of little nooks, veggie patch, fishpond, tree swing in the BBQ meadow. The hydrangea path looked amazing when we went on a rainy summers day. It is very steep in places that make it not suitable or fun for folk who have trouble going uphill on the return journey.
What a great visit. The house is beautiful and the volunteer guide was very interesting. It was raining but we went around the gardens regardless. Really worthwhile visit. Quite steep in places so if you have mobility issues you may want to check if they can assist.
Beautiful restful place - and a good workout for the legs and lungs heading back to the car park from the bottom!
