We didn't come to play Golf we came for the Mother's Day Buffet Lunch so the 5 Star Rating is for your cook and the amazing lunch he put on. Highly recommend these buffet lunches at $25 all you can eat! Yummy food! Spoke to a couple of gentlemen who were members of the Club absolutely lovely people. The Clubhouse Cafe/Restaurant located upstairs looks out to the Golf Club its actually quite beautiful on a nice sunny day. Would make a great venue for special events. To the chef, keep up the amazing work Really enjoyed our lunch and the environment. Awesome family friendly place Looking forward to coming back.
Had never played golf in New Zealand before and was a bit surprised about how spartan the club house facility was. Rented clubs and they were ancient and mixed bag of cheap clubs. Course was okay but tight and no great scenery. Each hole had advertisements and Mai was tough to follow. City park may have been better.
Today was my first round of golf ever, I’ve been to the range probably 10 times trying to learn the game and etiquette. My uncle was down from Auckland and chose it to play as it seemed more relaxed than other clubs. It was a Sunday game and we had let 2 groups in front of us as I was quite slow. The group that eventually ended up behind us on our last hole 10 shot 2 shots at us 1 missing me by a meter or 2 while playing on 2 different holes. I was none the wiser but my uncle explained that’s not how the game is to be played. We went back and confronted the group of 4 who were members and the 2 people that shot at us were unrelenting in their defence saying there was no harm and it wasn’t out of the ordinary/our fault. The other 2 in the group were sorry for their maga make America great again hat wearing man and their group leader which was some what comforting. For context they thought we jumped in front of them and shooting at us was justifiable but in reality we had let the group behind us go ahead, which we also did for them after the incident. An interesting first round, definitely wont be returning.
My wife and I played Bottle Lake Golf Course and also had a short ‘swing check’ lesson with the pro, Carl. Our lesson with Carl was excellent; he quickly identified key points in our swings that we should work on and was both supportive and reassuring. We then played a most enjoyable 18 holes. The course was in excellent condition; very consistent greens and the greenest fairways we have played on this summer. It was interesting and challenging golf in beautiful surroundings. We hope to return as soon as we can arrange our next visit to New Zealand!
In good condition, especially with one or two trees gone which used to attract golf balls. Greens a little slow which took a bit of getting used to. Overall very enjoyable.
