Books for Cambodia supports education and libraries in rural school communities in Cambodia. Sourcing books, training librarians, establishing and renovating libraries.
The Trust was initiated by Jennie Wilson, a former Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA) volunteer in Cambodia and now with her husband Roger, leads small group tours to Cambodia. Formerly they lead tours in a number of destinations throughout SE Asia, for the Pacific Discovery tour company. The other trustees visited schools in Takeo province on VSA/Pacific Discovery trips.
BOOKS FOR CAMBODIA TRUST is a registered charitable trust. Our New Zealand Charities Commission number is CC11467.
The trustees cover all administrative costs associated with Books for Cambodia so that 100% of funds donated to Books for Cambodia is spent on purchasing books, training teachers as librarians and establishing or renovating libraries in Cambodia.
Books for Cambodia has established libraries in 13 schools in Takeo Province and 5 schools in Kampot Province, as well as supporting a "Book Box" system in 3 School Clusters. (17 schools) BFC is currently providing library training and ongoing support for the librarians, purchasing new books and replacing books as is necessary.
Books for Cambodia is fundraising to bring access to books and educational opportunities to further schools in the region. A book for a school in Cambodia costs less than the price of a cup of coffee and we can confidently state that donated funds really do make a difference.
