Order lunch here last week and got the chicken and chips off the lunch menu and was happy with the food. Went again today and got the $25 Southern Chicken and curly fries asked for no salad for takeout. Got back to the office to eat and saw that not only did it not have curly fries, but looked to be the exact same package as the much cheaper lunch menu option. Sadly this means I won't return despite the good food.
Well, I have to say that I loved the jambalaya! I spent months in New Orleans, and I still miss the food years later. At home in Canada, we have all the usual Cajun spices, but not so many with us her in Auckland. We are here for 3 months, so we have time to check out many places, and this place was a surprise. I will say that my husband had the fried chicken and was expecting it to be a little spicy, but it was simply deep-fried chicken fingers and not spicy either. So now I get my spicy jambalaya while he picks up food at another kiosk. If you like jambalaya give this place a try!
Great flexible service provided by the staff at the Cajun kitchen. I ordered the bbq pork ribs for the sole purpose of trying ribs and asked for extra sauce, half kumura half curly fries, with one piece of skillet corn bread to try after reading so many reviews and they were able to provide. The corn bread was very decent for a gal who is not the biggest fan of bread, crisp savoury and creamy all in one. Glad I replaced half the kumura fries with curly, they were not exactly the fries I was expecting. Personally I wouldn't call them fries but just kumura pieces as they were that soft non ideal fry texture. The curly fries on the other hand were crisp and decent how it should be. Bit bland overall though. Now the main; personally I felt the ribs did not have extra sauce but the sauce was decent. The meat was easy to peel off but at the ends of each rib the meat tended to be on the drier side. Coleslaw on the side is average and the mayo was a little watery but it was a nice balance the the sweetness of the meat. Enjoyed my meal, but I think I'm still on the hunt for the best ribs in town!
Have been ordering food from here for years and yes, I'm creature of habit so when I find something I like I'll order the same thing basically every time. My favourite items from the menu is the kumara fries, fried chicken with salad and sometimes I'll also order the corn bread, wings or gumbo. Perhaps I need to change my order up in the new year - watch this space! Went back here last week and have noticed their portions have shrunk for the amount they're charging. Menu has changed and was disappointed that they didn't have their homemade lemonade. You also have to go up and get your food now so don't worry about having to remember your table number.
Part of a little group of eateries in an old stables. Not much atmosphere here but you have some great choices. Bonzer was one of about 5 different place. We had 2 different types of sliders and they were excellent..Food: 5/5
Outstanding. The food is super tasty and presented well. Good portion sizes and reasonable prices too. And the only place I’ve seen that gives you gloves to eat your wings with .. simply brilliant!Recommended dishesBuffalo Wings
Came for dinner with friends and was able to try both the Jerk Chicken and the Texas Beef Brisket. The hushpuppies with the chicken was quite nice. It had nice flavour but thought that the chicken was a bit dry. The brisket was really tasty and flavoursome but was a bit salty. The kumara fries and salad did help with the saltiness. The BBQ sauce was really nice.
Their snapper sliders were surprisingly tasty. However the pork sliders were a little bit salty to me, and a bit too wet to make the burger easily get messy. I would probably go for the snapper one next time. Paired them with their twisted fries and sauce, and it went good, except that the fries were a little bid salty. We also tried the buffalo wings, and its mild spiciness and sour was just perfect for a rainy day.
Ordered the chicken and waffles this evening because it sounded good. What a waste, long wait. Chicken was dry. Waffles were dry. Coleslaw had no taste and it was just chopped red and white cabbage and some white sauce slapped together. Got a coke can from the fridge was almost not cold. Wasn’t even that busy and had to wait long for food almost drier than the Sahara desert. Orange Dipping dauce was rubbish too. Only thing good was the maple syrup. First time buying from Bonz and have left very disappointed cause I thought elliot stables always had good food but this doesn’t seem to be the case anymore Giving 2 stars only cause the maple syrup is good Pretty confident this place used to be good according to previous reviews Won’t be returning regardless
The snapper sliders were amazing. They had slaw, pickles, tartar sauce, and everything balanced really well. I paired with the special fries and they were really good too. Totally would go back and recommend this place.
