Blue Ginger is one of our favourite restaurants in Whitianga.nnAs my husband is a vegetarian, he loves the vegetarian dish “Karma Kapow”.nnAs we dined on Matariki, a public holiday, the restaurant was fully packed with holiday makers and local residents even at around 5:30pm on 20/6/2025.nnWe highly recommend you to try their Kapow Chicken and Karma Kapow.
We had the great fortune to drop into the cafe for dinner last night. What a feast! Spectacular combination of offerings from different parts of Asia, very fast and helpful service. We will be coming back. Bravo!
Top tier food, absolutely delicious and portions were huge. Would absolutely return when I’m in Whitianga next. Would recommend the duck curry and the chicken kapow, and definitely make sure you try all of the bao buns even the veggie eggplant one!!
Place is severely understaffed, I had to personally get up to ask for tap water, and then our dishes came and I had to remind them after finishing my meal that we actually also ordered drinks.. my boyfriend had a nice chicken dish while I ordered a brisket dish on special and brisket was a brick of dried overly boiled meat that was dipped in kimchi : disappointing
Kapow!!! The absolute best asian fusion anywhere! The unassuming, casual charm of the decor, bustling happy vibe and friendly approachable team are enticing. The drinks are an interesting and tasty range of non alcoholics, Te Aroha Lemon, and Coconut water a few faves.nThe food is absolutely stand-out incredibly good. It's become a must-not-miss regular. What food magic is this?!!! The delicate balance of contrasting and complimenting flavours makes your taste buds wake up and dance. The prawn and peanut dumplings are delicious, eponymous bao bun superb, karaage chicken, Vietnamese noodle salad, and especially the duck curry are all phenomenally good, best in their class. Something really special in there.nIt couldn't possibly get any better....but then it just did!nTonight's special, snapper filets with pistachio and date crumb took it to whole new level of yum. Please make it a regular Blue Ginger.nThank you Blue Ginger, for you being you.
