I enjoyed my stay at the black sheep. Stayed in a private room, it was a little noisy fromnThe kitchen. That was my only fault of the place. Bathrooms were clean, room was clean. A good chill out zone. Sauna and hot tub were a treat. The staff were amazing! Very friendly and easy to talk to. Such good service! Thanks black sheep :
This is a really great find - even if you aren’t keen on staying in a hostel, don’t overlook this place! Had a double room with lovely views, the shared facilities were clean, never too busy, and the showers were super hot and great water pressure.nThe hot tub in the garden is a real bonus - delightfully warm and spacious, perfect after a day on the slopes
If you're looking for a chill and affordable spot to stay, Black Sheep Backpackers Hostel is where you want to be. The hot tub and sauna are such a treat—perfect for unwinding after a day of adventuring. Plus, the shared showers and bathrooms are always spotless, which is a huge bonus. The staff are super friendly and go out of their way to make sure you're comfortable, and there's a great vibe with fellow travelers. It's the kind of place where you’ll end up making new friends and feeling right at home. Definitely recommend it!
Yeah… booked a private room for 2, what a weird experience. The room was awkward, on one side you’re literally sleeping next to a heater wedged between the wall and the bed! The heater is your wall! The beds, oh my god don’t get me started, the most uncomfortable, awkward things ever. The mattress was worse than prison mattresses, the pillows were absolutely thrash. I did not sleep at all. Literally the first night I was already googling for other places.nnThe layout of this place is really weird. It is also just one “big house” so if you’re on the lower levels, you literally hear the flushing all night, people walking loudly etc.nnDid not have good vibes at all. Location isn’t even that great, there are far superior places in the middle of Queenstown that are so so much better.nnThey also don’t engage with guests like other hostels do. The showers, what in the world??? It’s a small cubicle that literally has no bench space, and a bloody curtain. So your only option is to leave all your clothes and belongings on the floor outside the shower and close the curtain. It’s so bloody awkward!!nnThe water temperature is either scorching hot or freezing cold, takes a good 15 minutes to even get it remotely ‘ok’.nn1, that’s right ONE toilet downstairs. Wtf.nnOverall, would never stay here again or recommend to anyone. What a total disappointment. They got me with good photos…nnNow, enjoy some pictures of beautiful Queenstown.
Just finished our stay here at the Black Sheep Backpackers. Was here for almost a week and it felt super easy could’ve stayed much longer if needed. The hospitality of the staff and amenities is far better than any other hostel/backpackers I have stayed and honestly rivals a hotel stay. Would recommended this place to anyone staying in Queenstown, even if you aren’t keen on staying at a hostel. Everyone here is super friendly and inviting which made for such a special experience. We will certainly be back!
