Birdcage Tavern/ Restaurant
"This extra-special pub is just a stone's throw from Columbia Road flower market, with plenty of parkside seating to admire those early evening sunsets and kick off your east-end nights out.Our combination of great craft beer, proper pub food and the odd cocktail thrown into the mix means we can take you right from a chilled dinner with friends to a raucous evening out, before you round off your week with one of our legendary Sunday Roasts after a trip to the market."

Hoxton  £6.55 Lost Lager A Brewdog pub on historic Columbia Road. . The Birdcage is located on Columbia Road and is perched at the end of a picturesque row of Victorian shops. This road is famous for the Sunday flower market which is definitely worth a visit. Getting here is easy, Hoxton overground station is just a five minute walk away. . This pub is very easy on the eye, the beautiful glazed emerald green tiles add a touch of Victorian glamour to this building. . The bar area is laid out in and L shape and the pub does feels quite spacious. The tall windows bathe this pub in light making the ambience bright and airy. The elegant servery is clad in solid wood, the columns are a nice feature but slightly hinder being served. At the back left side is a traditional fireplace with an old Joanna to the right. . This is a Brewdog pub so the beer choice is full of their in house brews on draft, in cans and bottles. I had a pint of Lost Lager which I’ve had before, it’s an ok pint but expensive considering its an own brand brew. If you’re hungry there is a full menu of pub classics, wings, burgers and roasts are available on a Sunday. Fish and Chips costs £15 which is average price for London. . I arrived around 3pm on a Saturday and it was fairly busy and there was a nice buzz around the place. If you’re visiting the flower market on a Sunday be warned it can get absolutely rammed in here. . The Birdcage is undoubtedly a very attractive pub and will appeal to a younger audience. The price point makes this an expensive place to have a pint. Worth a visit as part of a crawl of the area. . ℹ Info correct on visiting 22/10/22
Wonderful and friendly staff. So welcoming. Food was amazing. Not 5 stars because of cracked teapot and dirty milk jug custard?. Shortage of crockery?
A good spot to warm up, steal some wifi, and have a beer on a nice street. It’s on the expensive side but they let you sample the beers before you choose one, just ask.
Gutted I haven’t found this place sooner, what a lovely spot on the corner of Columbia road. Great for alone time or catch up with friends as I’ve experienced both! Staff have been great so far and the pub itself is always clean and fresh feeling with an old rustic vibe. It’s a must to come on a Sunday when the market is on! A very amazing atmosphere with lots to see an topped off with an incredible roast dinner which I’ve had several times now and never one complaint from me! Will be regular as I can. Thanks guys!
Great pub with proper beer. Lots of lovely brewdog beers featuring some lesser well known ones the oatmeal milk stout was delicious and interesting beers from other breweries as well. Very nice proper pub vibes, and isn't always completely overcrowded. Bar staff are quite pleasant and helpful
Nice pub which is always busy on a Sunday especially if it's sunny! They let you sit outside with plastic cups but there aren't loads of places to sit they're happy for you to sit on the floor. Think probably more of a council issue than the pub. Drinks are reasonable for London during their happy hours
Nice looking pub at face value in a popular spot on Columbia road but absolutely not worth your time or money!! Tables are very dirty, never wiped down, glasses and plates not cleared on every single table, you have to ask to have the table wiped and for things to be cleared by the very unwilling staff. I ordered a pork roast - potatoes were absolutely not roast potatoes, they were undercooked at best, accompanied by a stupid amount of carrots with literally 4 green beans. The pork was sliced very thinly, no crackling at all but soggy and chewy fat all over it. The Yorkshire was undercooked and floppy - I couldn’t even eat it. The gravy came cold in a paper cup. It was £19 !!!! and the worst roast I have ever had, a total and utter rip off with dirty cutlery to eat with and no napkins offered. To also make this pub not worth visiting is the fact the ladies bathroom had no toilet paper in all three cubicles, water all over the floor and one blocked sink leaving only one to wash your hands. Myself and my three friends had asked the bar staff if more toilet paper could please be put into the bathroom as we had all gone and been caught short. They said yes. It didn’t happen. So I asked again when I went to the bar on my way to the toilet next, along with another lady who was asking. My request was met with hostility by the young and extremely rude staff. With 4 of them standing there with hands on hips saying no, they had no more toilet paper and wouldn’t be getting more to put in there. Because ‘you guys keep using the bathroom and all the paper’ So ‘YOU GUYS’ - actual paying customers, on a busy Sunday afternoon, can’t even use the bathroom as a basic amenity with toilet paper!! Especially for women, that is absolutely not acceptable. I was told in no uncertain terms that they weren’t going to do anything about it and ‘why don’t you use napkins’ - whereas they knew there was no paper in there so THEY, the employees, should have replaced it with napkins themselves or found another solution rather than us ladies going in there, doing our business, finding there is nothing to wipe with then being met by utterly disrespectful staff who didn’t give a toss. What a disgrace this pub is and what a terrible bunch of staff working there. I certainly will not be going back there, neither will my friends and if you’re reading this, I would recommend that you don’t either.
Love the birdcage. Always packed especially on a Sunday. Good food and good drinks selection. Happy hour has great pricing. Sometimes it’s a bit chaotic to order etc but given it’s location it’s too be expected. Good vegan option too
Staff was helpful and efficient - and very polite! Food was fresh and tasty and I always enjoy a good Brewdog craft beer. Also the location is very handy, two steps away from the columbia road flower market. I'd definitely come back when I'm around!
Service has gone downhill in the last year or so. New and not very friendly staff behind bar every time, which means long waiting time. Used to have a larger beers menu and interesting rotations. Will give it a swerve from now on.
