Ara Institute of Canterbury is an institute of technology in Canterbury, New Zealand. The institute was formed in 2016 when CPIT (Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology) and Aoraki Polytechnic merged.Ara specialises in applied tertiary training. Subject choices include business, engineering, architecture, nursing, creative arts, hospitality, computing, science, languages, outdoor education, broadcasting and primary industries. Programmes range from Level 1 to Level 9. The institute works closely with industry to ensure students have relevant skills for employment, and have a wide range of work placement opportunities.Each year around 19,000 students enrol at Ara, including many international students. Ara is internationally-recognised and is one of the best English language training centres in New Zealand. Over 50 countries are represented among staff and students at Ara.CampusAra has five campuses throughout the Canterbury region, making it the largest tertiary institute in the South Island. Owned by the New Zealand government, Ara is regarded as one of the leading institutions of its kind in the country and has a Category 1 rating.

Studying here currently. I have to say the response times from admin staff are a little slow or non existent but that reflects on the funding levels and possible lack of ability to staff these things. As far as tutors and the overall experience of studying in my chosen field - it is second to none. The tutors in my field are beyond amazing - and even considering just how good some of the expertise on offer in other areas here is - this team may have been the best of the lot particularly seeing as how it involves human skills and psychology. I could be happier about parking availability, but there are so many people here daily, and we do have a lot of parking available In a city like this a there is never enough space for it, and b there is a fairly large amount of it The on site culinary services on offer are suitable and priced effectively, without any of that "you can't have blue top milk in your coffee" nonsense. Lovely place. Really enjoyed my experience here.
Really bad management , they informed me about that they are not running course just 12 days before the actual start date of the course . I was enrolled in applied level 5,6 pathway . After completion of level 5 , they suddenly said they can't run the course. When I checked with them before about the course they were sure that they will do level 6 , but when I went there for offer letter , they said go home we will share on email . Instead of that they send another email saying that they can't run the course . They informed me so late that I couldn't get any seat in other college as well , as they already done with enrollment . Really bad management . They don't think about the students , only running business . Now because them I have to be free for upcoming 7 months . Can't study anything . Bad institute to choose .don't want to give them even one star but for the review I have to .
Aweful customer services from some nasty woman called Gen on the phone.. was rude and arrogant..needs to go back to school and learn some manners ..I don't think people have any respect these days called up ask for a dept got a ear full of verbal diarea from this individual so unprofessional..would hope the rest of the staff have a decent phone manner..would approach with caution this staff member called Gen has a real problem go to a doctor or get some mental health advice. ..and learn how to speak to people without being so condesending and nasty
Very mediocre experience as a student. The services say they can offer support, but tutors are too busy to follow through with it.
Great place to study and friendly, helpful staff, fantastic tutors, great library resources, and great student support services. Highly recommend AAA rating.

I just have to say that the student support for enrollment is absolutely outstanding. I visited today to get help with an application and left feeling absolutely overwhelmed with support, what an incredible feeling. I feel so confident that I have chosen the right place to study. Huge credit to your enrollment and career support team
I’ve been studying at Ara for nearly two years now for English and hairdressing courses. I highly recommend studying at Ara. All tutors who I’ve met are very helpful and supportive. I’m glad that I enrolled here. However, if you want to pass all assessments and get the qualification that you want, you need to study hard. Nothing is easy and it should not be too easy anyway. Otherwise everyone would be graduated. I would love to study English for a higher level if I can in the future. Ara’s Parking is great, but you need to pay $5 a day, which is quite cheap compare to other public parking. Ara’s Library is a great place to study. Especially if your house is too noisy to study. Ara’s Gym is amazing and cheap for students. I love it all. People are great. Highly recommend
Good place for study and one of the ILTES exam center
Visiting Area institute for the first time was amazing. It reminds me of my yesteryear while studying at uni. I felt young again. Rubbing shoulders with those young student was really cool. Enjoyed my experience so much. I felt welcome and the environment was really conducive for studying, not matter the field you might choose .
