French classes and cultural events at Square Edge!

A key feature of the Alliance is that our teachers are French. Our adult students tell us that this really makes a difference to their classes. The classes not only become about learning a language but offer an insight into how French people think and act. It becomes an exchange of ideas and culture and is certainly a different environment to the high school classroom that some may remember.

Our language teachers provide high quality and fun sessions with the aim to get the students confident to speak French whilst also experiencing a slice of French culture. They are skilled and practiced at encouraging new French speakers.

We have specialised classes in French for toddlers, pre-schoolers and children. The aim of the classes is to learn French in a recreational and safe environment with lots of fun activities, such as drama, crafts, music, art, role-play and plenty of lively and popular games. Children play and learn in a small group.

We also have conversation classes and NCEA preparation classes for teenagers, focusing in particular on areas that they are not able to practise in a bigger class environment at high school, such as oral comprehension and speaking.

Through its cultural events, Alliance offers another way of linking into the French community alongside New Zealand Francophiles in Palmerston North. We have French movies and quiz nights and also organize cultural events within the wider Palmerston North community.

Mission

Our mission is to encourage the study of the French language, to raise the awareness of French and French-speaking world cultures in all their dimensions, to foster cultural, intellectual, artistic and friendly exchanges between the French-speaking world and the local community, and to promote cultural diversity by highlighting all cultures.
