Zen-Sai

Higher class Japanese food than you'd find elsewhere. Almost wanted to put my food in a display case rather than eat it. food tasted good, staff were friendly and the place felt cosy. I could definitely see it being a bit claustrophobic when busy though. 4 stars because it cost us about double what other sushi places do for smaller portions and I had to walk halfway down the hill to an atm because they don't take card it's 2018 come on guys

Wandered in when our first choice place was too busy and was happily surprised. The katsu curries and tempura are so good, and I could eat about 20 of the croquettes. Really quick service and amazing food, good value too for the quality you get. !

I have been to Zen-Sai on 4 separate occasions now and every single time the food and service has been nothing short of outstanding! Every friend I have taken here equally agrees the food is of the highest quality. Japanese is my favourite cuisine so I'm pretty fussy when it comes to Japanese restaurants. Zen-Sai is up there with the best without the pretentiousness or the exuberant prices. Highly recommended.

Nice little Japanese restaurant. Unfortunately the wait staff werr a bit vacant so it took a while to get their attention and order. Had the ramen which was delicious. Some might find it a bit too salty, but it was just right for my tastes. Very sparse on the toppings 2 slice pork belly, 1/2 egg, 1pc seaweed and some spring onion. It would have been good if menu included extra toppings to add. Good slection of beers & sake.

Unexpected find on a Tuesday night in Katoomba. The staff were polite and friendly and accommodating to our two young children under the age of 4. The prices were very reasonable although the portions were on the small side. Genuine Japanese food with Japanese quality and attention to details. Equivalent to the standard of Japanese food that one would find in a major city. Only negative was that the raddish was tough and was very fibrous and not edible.

The service was very good and fast. Food was fresh and tasty. The salmon sashimi was a stand out. We will look to come again to try out some of the other things on the menu.

The food was ok, we were the only diner on a Wednesday night between 6-7ish pm. We ordered sashimi 15 pieces and came with 4 cooked prawns as part of the 1t pieces, you'd get 3 pieces of salmon and 3 pieces of tuna though. that's a first as I never had a Japanese restaurant serving me cooked prawn and count it as sashimi which to my understand should really be raw fish and scallop etc. anyway the prices were ok for suburbs, not premium priced. Will I go back again? Maybe not though.

Portions are tiny, especially on appetizers, and prices high. We also waited an eternity for our food, which seems quite the norm in this region. Just be aware of these factors, then you won't blow a gasket like I did.

The food was acceptable without being overly exciting, atmosphere and service were just fine. Main complaint would be the portion size, I got maybe half of what I would have expected for a $20 entree

Arrived just after 7 on a Wednesday, waited till 9.20pm for a mediocre bento bowl and some udon noodles. Waitress dropped the spoon into the noodles, watched it submerge, said sorry and walked away. Very disappointed after seeing so many positive reviews
