TLDR: - ordering from website, there is a delay for the order to go through, do not panic, wait and then phone to confirm order if needed - one man show restaurant, has downsides - upsides: fast and cheap - very salty / has lots of msg in the food, very thirsty after eating -------- My goodness.. Where do I start.. So I've ordered from here a few times. Usually over the phone with the guy. We even picked up once. Haven't ever really had any problems. Until tonight.. We made some plans with friends for a big takeout night as I received a 20% off voucher that was sent to me via txt. We placed a large order on their website as it specified I could only use the voucher there. I have to say here that I juggled some user experience issues like not being able to add an item to checkout without hitting accept on the browsing cookies button one button blocking another and having to also create an account to lodge an order. This definitely added to my frustration. Upon placing the order I realized that I forgot to add an item to my order and decided to call them to add it in. Guy on the other end says he didn't receive any orders through the website and that he can't offer me 20% off, only 10% off if I order through the phone. He also kept insisting that instead I order through the food apps instead and that the 20% had nothing to do with him. I was quite shocked and surprised so I said thank you I will have a look and hung up. It was all very stressful after trying to sort out an order for about 40mins now. I ended up ordering from Chilli Home Thai on Uber Eats as their prices are quite similar and they're usually very quick. I had some pretty hungry people in my lounge room, myself included. As my food arrived from Uber Eats I get a call from the guy from Wings asking where I am to pickup my large order. Honestly flabbergasted I said I had already ordered through someone else as he had told me that he didn't receive my order before. He muttered something about idiots and hung up. Now I'm not heartless, I'm quite well aware he's running a one man show. He manages all the orders, cooks them and delivers them and has a language barrier. I don't know what his drive or motivation is but I've got to say he works hard and has moxie. I understand he's probably frustrated and his grasp of technology is not the best. But it was quite confronting and stressful for myself personally tonight. Most people would be after trying to wrangle a dinner party, two large orders and multiple miscommunications. Generally speaking the food is good / ok but lots of salt/msg in it. Customer service is good if without hiccups but not good when things don't go his way.
Absolutely hands-down the worst Chinese food I've ever had. Any reviews that state anything other than this are likely false, and should be ignored. Beef and black bean: salty, tough, off taste, and small portions. Honey chicken: horribly soggy like, really soggy, lacking in flavour and felt like it would give food poisoning. BBQ Pork and plumb: salty, small portion. Spring Rolls: actually not too bad! We didn't get our drink delivered that we'd ordered. Most of the meal ended up in the bin, as it was inedible. If you own this 'restaurant' you should be ashamed of yourself, as charging your prices for the food you deliver is basically theft. Needless to say we won't be back.
Absolutely hands down the worst Chinese food I have ever had. All I could taste was salt ... 2 pieces of duck in the meal ... I have never written a review before for a restaurant but this was so poor I couldn't stay quiet. Wish I had read the other reviews prior to ordering
Looks like this place has had a renovation revamp! Potentially much needed judging by previous reviews. Keen to try it out soon.
Quite possibly the worst Chinese I have ever had, and the worst service too. I ordered long life combination... what was delivered to my door was not what was described on the menu. It was missing 2 ingredients mushrooms and oyster sauce and the vegtables that we’re there tasted awful and were over cooked. The sweet and sour pork however was ok, and It was nearly good enough for me to give at least one star, however.... When I rang to complain that items were missing from my meal, the man was rude and hostile. I asked for a refund or a different item from the menu, the guy shouted at me that he would get mushrooms from coles and deliver those, he stated ‘sometimes we run out’... well surely when you run out of a item it should not be available on the menu!?
If I could give less than this I would. I placed an order for a fried rice and dish to pick up. The quoted time was 10 minutes. I arrived 10 minutes later and the operator was leaving the store with several bags of food. I mentioned my order and was told I was too late 'I said 5 minutes'. I said that meant my dish should be ready and was told there was no rice. He said he would make me noodles instead. II asked about my meat dish and it was not started When I said that I did not want noodles they locked the store and went on a delivery.
We get our Chinese food here all the time and find it is quite good. A tipical hard working Chinese family doing there best always friendly and quick, generous and grateful people sometimes they even give us free stuff. Not only do we enjoy supporting a small local business, we are rewarded with great food and service with a smile.
I have ordered take away food from here many times. Never had a bad experience. Food is always ready in a timely manner when I go to collect it, as well as being delicious..
I do have a very bad experience for order delivery in the very first time . I have been wait for 2hours since I placed my order from 6:30pm. When I call back to find out. The chief his name John behave mad to tell me they were busy with no apology, I always forgive people. So I though it will be faster when I order in shop. But it also superise me with their hygiene. Very very very bad chinese food with a dirty kitchen . It likes a Rubbish bin. Unorganised , smelly , and dirty! Taste is worse if compare with rosebay chinese restaurant. . That horrible place should be shut down by council. If that man John can be a chief. My kid can be his master!
I wish I could give less than 1 star. I don't normally post feedback, however when I do it's to encourage and applaud great food. This case it's just a cautionary tale. For those who TLDR, go to Double Bay Chinese. Trust me. Those who want to read my experience, read on: We are major fans of ordering something simple for Chinese when it comes to us not caring about cooking - Honey Chicken and Hot Pot. Having tried every Chinese option East of the City we mistakenly used Wings after a fantastic result from another restaurant. When ordering online via Menulog we chose our typical favourites and waited with hungry bellies. Sure enough time passed over what we were given as the "expected ETA" always forgivable to be called by the driver and passive aggressively told we gave him the wrong suburb which, in turn, was why we made him late. To be frank, I don't care if you're 15 minutes late however hungry we may be, but don't pathetically blame it on the customer if your GPS can't direct you to a main road in the suburbs if anyone cares, it wasn't the wrong suburb, and Menulog GPS also confirmed the address. When we were lovingly greeted by the delivery, we were then told that they "don't serve Hot Pot". Pardon? Did my eyes deceive me when I clearly clicked on the box on Menulog that said "Hot Pot"? Without any further explanation, or what concoction was brought for our consumption he scurried off. Now at this point, some people may still play devil's advocate and still believe the restaurant to be fine. To be completely honest, so long as the food is fine then we are fine. The food was not fine. Tasting this bland, no nothing, soggy excuse for food will cull anyones desire for a "treat night of takeaway". It was obvious the chef had no clue how to cook a Hot Pot if that was the intention but they seriously misfired on the Honey Chicken and entree's. Seriously, they screwed all 3. We tried. We really tried in simply the event of making sure that my husbands honey chicken was not a wasted experience, and to actually come to the conclusion that we wasted $42.60...well I sit here telling you this story. If you're curious about ever eating Chinese around the suburbs as of late 2015/early 2016: Rose Bay Chinese - Solid in their Food but take forever to deliver Double Bay Chinese - Our new favourite, probably more expensive than others but the serving sizes are HUGE and they actually cooked it well each time 3 times we have done it. Wings - see above Choys - Solid. Only done it a couple times but it's decent. Heck, go to Bondi Junction and get yourself Zilvers Yum Cha. Either way, your experience will only go up against this place. P.s. We attempted to put this on Menulog but they've noted feedback was off for us to do this. Once this is fixed I'll load up our experience. Maybe they had a bad night. Maybe the delivery guy was also the Chef and he hated the fact that we clicked on a menu item that they "don't serve". Either way, it's a solid miss for us when there are better options out there.
