I don't know what all these negative reviews are about. I am doing a bachelor's course here and it has been spectacular so far. All the teachers are professional, knowledgeable and helpful. I am a person of colour, and haven't had no racism at all. I guess people tend to write bad reviews but students with good experience don't tend to leave a good review. Here's one from my side. Thanks WAI.
I did my certificate while in a very toxic workplace but I didn’t quit until I finished the course so it wasn’t for nothing. I’ve emailed to get my certificate mailed out to me but they want me to pay for a new one as they just gave it to a random worker at the workplace. It’s not cheap to get a new one and not worth my mental health to go try chase down finding it. Maybe offer to mail it out to the correct student not just give it to a random waitress and expect me to go find it like a game
To all the international students: This college is a burden to the students, my friends in this college have faced racism by the professors and they pile up a lot of assignments in a week and then fail the people of color which has been happening in every term. The professors are of no help and do not coordinate or communicate with the students properly about the unit or the assignment, and leave them to figure it out themselves and if not done on time, students are told to do it all over again. I would no recommend this college to anyone interested.
Okay, to be clear I have never engaged with this place, but every negative comment here and there are many involve complaints from former students all reporting racist treatment and a negative environment for them. The only exception after ten minutes of reading was a lady with autism who also said her teacher’s didn’t have the patience to help her. I’ve never read so many negative comments like this about one organisation, and it seems the positive comments were from seemingly non foreign students. Clearly this place needs to do better. Catering is a tough gig, but let’s be frank without foreigns in it, we’d have a much smaller industry. Not cool WAI, and as you’ve had many government subsidies, you need to do a whole lot better.
I wish I'd read the reviews before enrolling in WSET here. I had to reschedule my first booking as I had covid and the administrator really wasn't happy about it. I provided a medical certificate etc as required but still had to chase up to confirm it'd all been received and accepted, still the attitude was that I should have attended despite being extremely unwell and contagious. However, this attitude absolutely paled in comparison to that of the facilitator on the day. There was open hostility right off the bat, when being asked to share about ourselves. This was apparently just an opportunity to roll her eyes, audibly guffaw, and be utterly contemptuous of my response to why I was doing the course, with a personal insult thrown in. Responses to questions were either ignored or likewise treated with contempt. As the morning went on, people were answering less and less due to the openly hostile environment. The facilitator realised I had not been happy about the way she both spoke to and about me, but instead of addressing it privately during the break, she chose to do so when most of the group were still in the room. This was the absolute last straw and I left. I will not use this provider in future under any circumstances.
I would like to give 0 star if I could, the organization is bad, some teacher just no show without any reason. School couldn't find another teacher to replace, no one was marking assessment and teaching.

One of the most educated, sophisticated, and brilliantly designed institutions in Melbourne. The state-of-the-art facilities and the value offered by the attached restaurant contribute significantly to the support provided to students in training. Additionally, the location, situated opposite a park and on a major tram line near Flagstaff metro station, adds to the institution's convenience. However, as an older student with some language barriers, I encountered challenges with certain teachers who appeared intense, causing additional stress and contributing to feelings of depression. While there are undoubtedly excellent teachers, I believe that a few could benefit from improvements in their approach. I also experienced a general sense of confusion throughout the entire process, with unclear instructions and a website that required extra time to navigate. Moreover, my interaction with the student management team was disappointing; despite seeking more details, I received no response or email.
FYI international students and Australian students! I left school after completing the second semester in 2018 with 3 subjects left to complete the degree. Now I requested to be back and complete my degree with an offer to do 8 subjects instead of 3 that I owed to get the same title degree in hospitality simply because of their policy. MAKE SURE YOU THINK ABOUT THIS BEFORE CHOOSING THIS SCHOOL. THEY'RE VERY GOOD AT MAKING MONEY FROM STUDENTS.
I have had a positive learning experience so far. The lecturers are friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about their subjects. I have not encountered racism or hate speech during my time here, which is great. The facility is small compared to other educational providers, but it still has everything you need. One thing bothering me is the international office and information center staff-very unhelpful and lack customer service skills. This can be frustrating when you're trying to get help with something important.Other than that, I am happy with the education I am receiving and I would recommend William Angliss Institute as a good choice for tourism, culinary and hospitality education. The courses are well-structured and provide a good balance of theory and practical experience. The institute also has strong industry connections which can be helpful when looking for work after graduation.
