Melbourne's only authentic Tibetan restaurant, great value, delicious & genuine Tibetan food since 1990. We are fully licensed (BYO wine only).
The Wild Yak Tibetan restaurant has been a unique food experience in Melbourne for more than 23 years since it was first opened by one of the early Tibetan refugees to arrive here, Mr Dorje Wolok.
In November 2013, the restaurant changed hands. New owner and chef, Mr Ngawang Tobchen Gophe, is keeping the traditions of Tibetan food alive and vital in the multi-cultural precinct of High Street, Northcote.
Ngawang Tobchen and his family have lived in Australia for more than ten years; and although they are now loving life as Australian citizens, Ngawang Tobchen is committed to sharing the knowledge and increasing the understanding of Tibetan Culture to keep it alive. Sharing traditional Tibetan food is a good place to start!
Over the last twelve months the restaurant has started to undergo a renovation program, including a re-fit, a new format for the menu, and the introduction of freshly made frozen foods to take away and cook at home. The vision is to move it from its original café format to a restaurant where people will experience the best traditional Tibetan food and through special events and celebrations, a taste of Tibetan culture as well.
