As a parent, sending my child to Wesley has unfortunately been the worst decision I’ve made. While the school claims to promote inclusivity and diversity, I’ve found the reality to be quite different. Many students behave rudely, and the environment can be exclusive and disrespectful. Shockingly, there is a pervasive culture of homophobia and racism, which is extremely disheartening in a school that markets itself as open-minded and diverse. The quality of education is also a major concern. I would estimate that around 80% of the teachers seem unqualified. Many lack the necessary knowledge and resort to searching for answers online during class, and there’s a noticeable lack of engagement with students. Worse, some teachers are unresponsive to student emails, ignoring questions or requests for help. It’s clear that tuition fees are not being invested in enhancing the educational experience, but rather on superficial things like maintaining the lawns, while buildings are lit unnecessarily after hours. Another major issue is the grading system. Many teachers grade irresponsibly, often giving students very low scores without any meaningful feedback to help them improve. In some cases, students receive vague or generic comments like “amazing work” while being given a score as low as 50%. This complete lack of transparency and respect for students’ efforts is unacceptable, and it leaves students confused and discouraged. Teachers should be responsible for giving constructive feedback, yet this basic educational standard is not being met. The staff’s treatment of students is equally troubling. Respect for students seems to be missing, with some teachers being overly harsh for minor infractions. For instance, one teacher reprimanded a student for five minutes simply because the student walked past them. Worse, offensive language such as “get out” and “bullshit” is reportedly used towards students. This is not the kind of environment where students can feel safe or supported. Learning in Residence LiR is particularly problematic. The food is consistently poor, with plates and glasses frequently left dirty. Despite repeated complaints, nothing has been done to improve the quality of meals or the cleanliness of the dining area. Additionally, the administration is frustratingly unresponsive. Issues often need to be reported multiple times before any action is taken, and staff tend to prioritize enforcing rules over students’ well-being. There have also been instances of cleaners throwing away students’ belongings, mistaking them for trash, without offering any form of compensation. Privacy is another major issue. Staff have checked students’ phones without permission, which is a clear invasion of privacy. Despite promises to improve, problems such as the unpopular food choices and rigid prep schedules for Year 9 students continue to persist. These schedules interfere with students’ after-school routines and limit their free time, creating an unnecessarily stressful environment. In summary, Wesley’s administration, staff behavior, and overall management leave much to be desired. If you are considering this school, especially the Learning in Residence program, I would strongly recommend reconsidering your options.
The school is a very good school I wished I could stay but… I went to Wesley college for about 4 years. A teacher named Clare Kelly showed extreme hatred and racism towards me which made me leave the college. Here are some of the following that Clare Kelly has done to me. Would constantly accuse me of serious things with no evidence to back them up, she always had a bad attitude and was irritated when I talked to her, and if I ever got into a conflict with a student at school Clare would immediately accuse me at being at fault when I had witness to back me up. She recently got promoted from a teacher in year 6 to the head of year 7. This is very disappointing and the reason I left Wesley college. It’s hurts me to see that this teacher still works there and can potentially do this to other students in the future.
I have not personally ever attended this school as a student, but i do visit this school every week, for my sunday classes. This as a venue is a really great place. The parking is very good and plentiful, however i might add you aren't allowed to park everywhere, there are also college resident areas that you cannot park in, if you are not are resident. Other then that it is a great place for different organisations or companies to book as a venue for their presentations or their shows. The toilet facilities are pretty much what you expect, clean, a little gross from time to time. But that's normal. And it isn't a very common occurrence.nnThe outdoor areas are also very up to date, there are multiple soccer/football pitches during the soccer/football season. Plus a couple cricket, footy and one baseball pitch. Usually there are college campus security roaming around when the the campus is booked after school hours, to help the guests with anything that might occur.nnAs an actual school and their education, i do not know anything. So i cannot comment on that.
I think I should clarify my post. This school used to be good, the teachers were nice and supportive, who cares for student wellbeing as well as aspects of academic success. However, things fell apart over the past few years. One of the reasons I left was because of an imfamous teacher who somehow fluked her way to the head of year nine. She is infamous around the community by being extremely strict and disrespectful to many students including me. The person's name is Penny Mudge. Instead of helping students to learn from their troubles and help them be better, she would simply give them a detention and think the problem is solved, this does not tackle the core of a problem but rather mislead them into not knowing what they did wrong. She is also a big time racist, an obvious example of this was when she gave afterschool detention on mant occasions for reasons such not being able to submit their homework due to a system error and forgetting to wear their academic uniform once, while I had multiply people throwing clay at my friend during art class even when the teacher told them to stop and somehow only got a lunchtime detention. She did many other bad things which I will not list out one by one and she is not the only one that is unnecessarily strict or irresponsible. Reasons that I think the school fell off include factors such as a quick change in the majority of leadership and the philosophy of education present. For example, the old teachers were experienced, expert educators that were kind and supportive of student development both academically and socially. The new teachers were inexperienced and does not knows how to actually teach, I had teachers that are clearly underqualified for the subjects they are teaching or ones that doesn't know or care about a student's work. In the past, the teachers guided me towards success by ways such as providing clear and detailed feedback on what I did good, what I can improve on and how I can improve, everything changed when teachers stopped caring for a student's improvement and just enter a number in the system and call it a day. Usually marking unfairly as I had teachers that gave me a top grade and then proceed on changing teachers which gave me average grades and vice versa. Communications between teacher and parents are lacking and often the teacher just drag conversation because they could barely be bothered to even know a student well.nnsad cuz i actually had some good friends and memories there
Clearly not my real name for fear of retribution against my children.nAppalling senior school. Lazy teachers disrespectful to students who read from power points don’t teach and put undue pressure on students at the last minute before deadlines. Lack of coordination across the teaching staff. Poor leadership. No QA no feedback from parents requested.nHead in the clouds.nAs a parent who has had children here for 10 years I have never once been asked for feedback on the schools performance.nIn hindsight I should have changed schools years ago but hindsight’s a beautiful thing.nLook elsewhere; for the price you would expect a better experience.
