The zoo has vastly improved a lot of the exhibits, the new kiwi area is just as good or better than the Aussie walkabout. Being able to interact with the keepers is brilliant and seeing they already have time for the kids just makes it do much more fun. This is a must see place when visiting Wellington. Highlight of the visit would be the otters as the big bulky fence had gone and replaced with a glass fence so everyone big and small can see what's going on!

Beautiful place to take the kids and spend a whole day outdoors, weather permitting, of course. Enjoy a picnic at the (Australian) Neighbours area surrounded by kangoroos and an Emu. I still can't believe we had the chance to do that! You can also make a booking for you birthday to hold one of your favourite animals, not the lion, I guess :), but the Red Panda, for example. How cool is that!

The Wellington zoo is beautiful, somewhere inbetween a stroll in the bush and a zoo. Lots of quiet spots to chill and lots of entertaining areas for your kids. There is something for everybody. Cafes, picnic tables, a nice shop, a wild animals vet clinic...Great for a mid-season day out.

We have visited there at noon. So Most of animals were hiding due to the heat, therefore could not see many animals. But still animals are cute and especially chimps are fun to watch! We spent 1.5 hrs before fly back to Auckland and it was enough time to go through whole zoo.

Wellington zoo is a great little zoo. We take the kids there regularly for a run around. It's well worth investing in a year round pass if you plan to go more than 4 or 5 times in a year. We usually seen between 1.5-2hrs there. They're continually developing the attractions (we love the Kea enclosure). Take a picnic blanket and some snacks for the kids, there are plenty of places to stop and chill out for a while. Keep an eye out for the talk times, especially feeding the Sumatran tigers... If you're lucky enough you'll get to see them check some of the animals in the vet clinic (x-ray etc).
