The Wellington Zoo, much like the city itself, is compact, hilly, and full of charm.nnNestled in a beautiful location, it offers stunning views of the city, especially from the area where you can watch the chimps socializing. The Banana Bar, conveniently situated in the center of the zoo, provides a great spot for a break. There are fantastic play areas for kids and toddlers, though I would appreciate larger family rooms.nnThe zoo offers excellent membership options, including free admission for children under three, which is a significant relief given the high costs of daycare at this age. The staff are friendly, and the facilities are well-maintained and clean.nnWe've invested in yearly memberships, so we look forward to exploring this gem frequently.
Excellent Zoo, and close to all animals was possible to see even here in winter time. Love it here!nnThe feeding hours was great too. Specially for the Res Panda.nnThe food store could use an update though.
It's not our first visit but we were just as enthralled as the first time. Because we went first thing on a cold day, most of the glass viewing windows were so thick with condensation that they were impossible to see through, which was extremely disappointing. The place is clean and the specific animal talks informative and well presented. We're always happy to hear about the conservation efforts of the zoo and we are happy to contribute by supporting the zoo.
Wellington Zoo is a great place to see a bunch of animals, the snow leopard is awesome!nI would rate it 5 stars.. but whenever I go I never am able to see the penguins.. which is always disappointing
My friend and I visited the Zoo while we were in Wellington, and we had a pretty good time. We saw the kiwis, plenty of lizards and primates, giraffes, and tigers. I thought the spiders were fascinating, too.nnIt was pretty busy when we went, but we could still get tickets quickly at the door for a fair price. All the staff members we interacted with were friendly and polite.nnI want to come back on a quieter day and spend a bit more time in each of the exhibits here. It was school holidays when we visited, and some of the groups passing through were a bit obnoxious, pushy and noisy which isn't the Zoo's fault at all; it's just what happens at that time of year, so definitely plan the day there accordingly.nnWe circled back to the kiwis at the end of our visit when it was quieter since a few noisy groups passed through and frightened the kiwis when we were there the first time around. We were lucky enough to spot one pottering about after waiting patiently and quietly for a little while. I'd recommend visiting the zoo this way if you have the time to.
