A gorgeous walk down from the cable car, this trail meanders through rose gardens, trails lined with colourful hydrangeas, trees, a playground....so much beauty you want to be sure you have your camera ready! Tip: just pay for the cable car one-way, up, and walk down through the gardens. It is a steep walk, only about a 22 minutes, but I'm guessing much easier than walking up instead!
Awesome Gardens. Thank you to everyone who works to create this space for us! Easy way to explore the Gardens is to take the cable car and work your way downhill through the gardens. Check out the Rose Garden and Begonia House! Most beautiful flowers in bloom right now - December 31. Enjoy the beauty of this natural setting.
One of, if not the best Botanic gardens we've experienced! 64 acres of breathlessly beautiful flora Take the Cable car as it drops you off at the top of the garden, and it's all a downhill walk. Flowers abundant beginning to bloom early December. Lots of surname and magnificent pines, the biggest I've ever seen. 100 feet? More? And dozens of them that tall. Several specialty areas, rose garden, tree house, large children's play area. Totally clean, the total acreage. This is a must see, and you could literally spend a full day. Don't forget your camera, or clean the lenses of your cell phone. Oh, and it's free!
Wellington Botanical Gardens is a lovely place to relax.nnWe went to the gardens as part of the Gardens Magic event and was not disappointed. What a great event set in a fantastic location.nnThe gardens are well kept and had an array of plants, animals and water features.nnThere’s also a planetarium that we are hoping to visit soon.nnGardens can be walked to from the CBD or you can take the cable car from Lambton Quay.
It is a leisure walk for about an hour or so. Lots of road signs that make sure you won't get lost. There is a children playground about 1/4 of the route if you start from the cable car station. There are lots of good views of downtown Wellington at this trail.
