Story

Union College is an independent, co-educational residential college located on the St Lucia campus of The University of Queensland, Australia. We provide fully catered accommodation for 334 undergraduate and post-graduate, domestic and international students.

Union College is conveniently located in very close proximity to the University campus. The heritage listed buildings and gardens offer facilities and services of a very high standard. Union College is proud of its ethos of respect for equity, diversity and difference, where every individual can pursue their own academic goals and personal interests. Our core values of personal accountability and always respecting others and being mindful of their needs has ensured a harmonious college community for many years.

Union College provides an excellent tutorial program which is free-of-charge for residents. Individuals can access small group tutorial sessions which are held during the week in one of our purpose build, on-site tutorial facilities.

The Resident Mentor Program is a critical component of the pastoral care of our residents. The aim of the program is to provide experienced, friendly and engaging mentors for the residents of our community. R.M.’s are carefully selected for their ability to welcome, mentor and nurture young people, in particular, those who are entering their first year of University study. Furthermore, the R.M. program seeks to enhance the academic, social, cultural and personal development aspirations of all residents, as well as encouraging the resident population to make sensible decisions about how to achieve their goals.

In 2015, Union College celebrated 50 years of being open on the St Lucia site.

Mission

Union College promotes education by offering access to a residential community specifically created to assist students achieve academic success. The College has as its enduring quality, a safe, secure and caring environment to assist residents to achieve their academic, personal, cultural and sporting goals. College relationships are guided by core values of integrity, innovation, collaboration, tolerance and equity, respect for self and others, and acceptance of responsibility.

Products

Residents at Union College are provided with fully catered individual rooms on-campus at The University of Queensland. Most residents are accommodated in single, carpeted study bedrooms which are cleaned each week. Residents are provided 3 wholesome nutritious meals each day, including weekends, semester holidays and examination periods. Union has a number of speciality facilities and services for use by residents, including high speed Internet access, quiet study spaces, gymnasium, TV room with Foxtel and a large games room.
