Booked in advance and had a great dinner. Entree: Seafood cannelloni, black garlic and lobster bisque sabayon. Well seasoned and I love the filling. Sabayon taste good and did stimulate my appetite. Main: Black Angus Scotch fillet, braised beef cheek, cauliflower and potato gratin, red wine jus. Like the gratin very much. The fillet was juicy and flavorful. Beef cheek and the jus suited well. Dessert: Apricot and cherry custard filled sfogliatella, nougat semi freddo. The filling in sfogliatella was good but pastry was a bit too firm. It’s my first time to try nought semi freddo and I like it! The waitress was very friendly and I did enjoy chatting with her. Chef was nice and candid. A good place for an enjoyable dinner.
Charming, good menu and solid wine list. Very good vegan options - just need to call ahead. Food took a very long time to arrive and my dish contained plastic but they were pleasant about it.
We had a lovely lunch in the backyard area. Beeing French we were happy to find a good cheese place. The staff is nice, and the food is awesome. Quality ingredients, great presentation. I had the chicken poached salad, it was divine. The spinach gnoochi were great too. The chef is talented. I hightly recommand this place.
Food was fantastic, wine list adequate but good. Wait staff incredible. But there were only 5 of us in the restaurant & 4 off us sent our compliments to the chef, so when he came out we thought a quick “thanks” or “hi” would be nice. He ignored us
OK maybe Five Star is a tad over the top but I really felt the vibe there in this suburban Gem of a Restaurant where for low end prices you get really Top end delights! Three nights per week Thursday, Friday and Saturday, they serve a two or three course dinner menu, sourced from local produce. Menu changes weekly. My Porterhouse steak done two ways, was indeed memorable. The Quail looked & tasted spectacular. They have this fabulous Deli counter with many surprises in their range of cheese including local artisan cheeses as well as other interesting accompanying ideas. The Restaurant is comfy & well soundproofed which impressed me, it’s a treat these days to dine with friends and actually hear the conversation.
Always loved this place. Solid selection of cheese, wine and some local brews. Great tasting brunch food and a very decadent mocha. The steak is amazing when it's on offer in the evenings too! The staff are also amazing and very accommodating.
So very rarely do I have a bad experience when going out, if at all, however this one is 'so bad' I've come back to leave a review 4 years later! As I believe people should be aware of this. It's regarding the owner, and I have recently checked with the store and it hasn't changed hands, so they are still there. Essentially I wanted to check out this cool cheese cafe, with my girlfriend. Came in and upon entry the owner started complimenting my girlfriend on her looks as well as remarking that she was to good for me! I let it fly originally as it takes a fair bit to phase me, but throughout our brunch he did the same harsh, unprofessional and completely unwanted negative remarks about me multiple times. It took everything I had not to walk out without paying this jerk. So be warned, he's a real piece of work. Go somewhere that is actually polite and professional, for it won't be here.
Visited last night which is usually a BYO night- my wife booked and advised as the cafe was closing down there wouldn't be BYO as there was "clearing" of wine stock and reduced menu. We were very keen to go as we always have an enjoyable experience. We have been going to this cafe for breakfasts, lunches and more lately dinners since 2010/2011 - I suspect we have been over 100 times during that period and have had excellent and polite service always. At the last minute two of our guests did not turn up and another guest brought BYO wine thinking it was the usual arrangement for that night. We bought a bottle of wine from the list to go with the meal which was poured by the waitress and then removed from the table half full. Our friend not thinking clearly took one of his BYO wines and poured it out in the absence of the wine purchased. We did absolutely the wrong thing and when challenged by the owner apologised for drinking BYO wine- however his response was not polite in the least in asking us to leave the cafe- he snatched the wine glasses away from us berating us in an aggressive and angry tone which was shocking and vicious and telling us to leave- we apologised again and paid for the food and wine that we had consumed except the half bottle of wine which was removed earlier.. We were treated like pariahs and dressed down in front of the other patrons. Clearly our long term patronage and good custom was wiped away in an instant when we admittedly had done the wrong thing- once. We apologise again to Monte for our drinking of the wine, but are incredulous about his aggressive behaviour. We wish him well in his new enterprise and will always remember the many, many times we ate good food at his cafe and enjoyed his pleasant self and hope he has it within himself to remember that and not one lapse of judgment from long time patrons.
Amazing experience. We went there to celebrate my partner's birthday and they were very accomodating, considering it was a last minute booking I booked on Friday for a Saturday dinner. The food was simple with delicious and high quality ingredients. Good first course: I had oysters for entree, my partner had rabbit. Great second course: for mains we had the fillet mignon and coq au vin. For dessert: and the cheese...ooooh the cheese! Monty the Tall chef came out and had a chat with us, he's very down to earth. Wine: a delicious Pinot. Verdict: a surprising, outstanding quality fine dining experience in the inner North, laid back and not too expensive. A little gem I’ll keep in my back pocket for special occasions. Next stop - Two Tall Chefs’ all day menu for regular brunches.
First time there today. Had breakfast. It was the best omelette I've ever had. Can't wait to go back and get stuck into the massive cheese selection that I saw on display. The alluring wine selection is also a magnet.
