TSB Bank Wallace Arts Centre

About

In August 2010, the Pah Homestead became the home of the James Wallace Arts Trust’s Collection, and the TSB Bank Wallace Arts Centre. Exhibitions from the Collection and guest exhibitions rotate frequently. Entry is by donation.

Mission

For some years greater public access has been given to the Collection by making bodies of works available to some 50 institutions ranging from schools, universities and science research establishments to hospitals.

23 years ago James Wallace established the Annual Wallace Art Awards. These awards are now the longest surviving and richest annual art awards of their kind in Australasia, amounting to over $195,000. The Paramount winner is awarded a 6 month Residency in New York with the International Studio and Curatorial Program; the Parklane Wallace Development Award winner receives a residency at Vermont Studio Cente, while the Kaipara Foundation Wallace Award winner receives a residency at the Altes Spital in Solothurn, Switzerland. The winner of the Fulbright Wallace Arts Trust Award receives a three month residency at the Headlands Center for the Arts in San Francisco. Many of the winners and finalists of the Awards are added to the Collection each year.

Products

Beyond this the Trust financially supports many other Arts organizations in New Zealand. Sir James Wallace is patron, trustee or board member of some 20 such institutions.

One of the must visit locations in Auckland! Great for brunch cafe. We went there for lunch and very happy to be here. I will definitely bring my family and friends to come for a good break. The sandwiches are superb. The pastries are a bit too sweet for me. That is a good reason for me to return for tasting different baked. The staff was wondeful. He tried to get us a table even when we walked in. Excellent!
The Arts House is a fantastic public space to explore and enjoy. With both indoor and outdoor art galleries, it offers a delightful experience for art lovers. It's a perfect spot to spend quality time with friends and family. We were fortunate to visit during the market, which made our time there even more special.
It's a nice place to visit. Unfortunately it was raining so we didn't walk in the grounds, but inside the house was very nice. Looking at the art works.nPlenty of extremely clean toilets.nWe had lunch in the cafe . A good menu selection. The food was delicious. Unfortunately both our meals arrived tepid.nThe staff were super friendly. And enjoyable lunch. Also check out the selection of cakes. Yum.
I met my friends at Hill House Cafe and afterwards wandered into the art museum, where I noticed a beautiful piano. Caught by inspiration, I asked a staff member if I could play it. She paused, then said, “Only if you’re a professional pianist.” I replied, “No, I’m not a professional — but yes, I can play.” She frowned and insisted, “This piano is only for people who really can play.”nnIt was one of those painfully awkward moments—standing in front of an instrument I longed to touch, only to be told I wasn’t good enough by someone else’s standards.
**Gallery and Coffee Shop**nnThis art gallery is complemented by a coffee shop downstairs, offering a unique blend of art and refreshments.nn**Food Quality**nnThe cinnamon bun looked too sweet due to the icing, but it might be enjoyable for those who don't mind extra sweetness.nn**Ambiance**nnThe space is pretty nice, although there are ongoing renovations that might affect the atmosphere.nn**Service and Staff**nnThe staff are friendly, adding to the welcoming environment.nn**Coffee Quality**nnThe coffee was average, not particularly noteworthy.nn**Pricing**nnPrices are a bit higher than your average coffee shop, which might be a consideration for budget-conscious visitors.
