The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating and the food was spectacular, particularly the salad. There was a mix up with our order and the waitress was quick to correct the issue and was even kind enough to take the meal off our bill. Management clearly care about the customers experience and what they did was very kind. I highly reccommend supporting this business.
All of the food was cooked well, it was just a little bland. Had the fish goujons, which were fried well, but the tartar sauce was below average, the prawns could have used a lot more garlic and salt, and a lot less butter, the ribs fell off the bone, but the sauce needed more zing. The kids meal of chicken tenders was good, and the chips were great. The salad dressing needed an acid.
Have had a lovely coffee here early evening and very good Fries. My brothers had beers. Lovely place pleasant staff. Cost $$
Food was perfect. Scallops were succulent, juicy and with a crisp. Prawns were flavourful and cooked to glassy brown. Pan seared cod and lamb were cooked to perfection as well. To add on to that, service was remarkably good too — manager noticed that we over-ordered and tweaked our menu to cater to our group size, and was incredibly sweet at that. Best meal in NZ so far. 10/10 recommend.

I don't like giving bad reviews but this place, we were the first people here it seemed but we got our food like 35 mins after ordering we ordered a bacon, sausage and egg butty and eggs benedict so shouldn't take that long considering we were the only ones ordering at the time also people who came later got their food first, we ordered tea, asked for milk and sugar and had to go in because they forgot, bacon was just fat, I mean like and entire slice of bacon was just fat, the dire amount of hollandaise sauce like it was the last make in new zeland it was also oddly grainy. On a positive the eggs were proper runny but I feel there's much better places to go, especially as this cost $53.. not the most expensive but I'd expect more. The only reason we ate all/what we could was being were travelling up to Christchurch and knew we weren't eating again for a while but tbf wish we just stopped at maccas in timaru..
Have just had a night out at Trout and had a great night with friends. We were greeted by the friendly staff and seated at a table that looked out over the lake and mountains, very spectacular!! Our meal was superb, service was great and we will certainly be back. Thank you all at Trout.Recommended dishesSuper Fresh Seafood
Fabulous restaurant. Had a lovely evening there with friends and we all enjoyed it. Pricey but quality was easily worth it. Recommended by me.Food: 5/5
The service was excellent and the scallop entrees delicious. But my pork spare ribs were very dry and not nice. I would not recommend them. But overall a pleasant experience.
