We tried the pastry and coffee. The presentation was really good. We ordered the osmathus croissant and injeolmi croissant however they were both filled with so much cream
This cafe is sooo good- so many highlights! I loved the creamy udon— the combination of bacon, mushroom, parsley, onion, tempura seaweed, spring onion, parmesan cheese, sesame seeds, onsen tamago egg, udon with creamy sauce was just heaven. Seasoning and flavours were perfect, udon was perfectly cooked, so creamy and just an outstanding dish. The blueberry crumble cheesecake was amazing. I loved the different layers and the play on different textures and elements: the firmness of the biscuit base, crunchiness of the crumble on top, the creaminess of the filling and the juiciness of the blueberries — it just worked really well and wasn’t too sweet or overpowering either. The matcha iced croissant was so cool too. The matcha powder on the outside was quite bitter if you’re into that, but the oozing cream inside was so soft and tasty. The coconut matcha was average compared to the other items, as the ice and sweetness ratio was a little off for my liking.nnThey are super popular so be prepared for a wait. It’s definitely worth a visit though, food I tried was phenomenal and the service was so friendly — I’d definitely return to try the rest of the menu! I like the menu items, the aesthetic and was an overall fantastic experience. We ordered the:nnCreamy udon $24nUdon with tempura prawn $23nMatcha iced croissant $10nBlueberry crumble cheesecake $8.50nCoconut matcha $8nMatcha latte $5
My experience was disappointing after hearing the food reviews from this place.nnThe pork katsu was very disappointing. The pork was tough and from the picture you can see it came out overcooked. Rice dry as well. The sides were nice though and did help but the main star was a bit off. In normal situations would ask for a redo but if you read below you can see why I didn't.nnThe croissant was okay, egg was nice but the whole thing was very wet and beside the egg can't taste anything else.nnMatcha was weak only helped by the ice cream which lifts it up. However if the ice cream wasn't present it would be weak.nnThe main issue here though is the timing of the food. When we went we experiences a good wait of 15 minutes between the croissant and the katsu. This meant the awkward stare of just watching someone eat while you have nothing then vice versa. Either that or can let the food become cold...nnPie was nice good potato flavour though.nnOverall pretty disappointed as the reviews for Hoshino are all positive.
A Japanese-inspired small cafe in the neighborhood with friendly staff.nnLots of food to choose from on the menu. The meals are quite average, but the croissants are very filling and rich in flavors, making them great for sharing after the main meals. I would like to return and try other flavours.nnIt’s still a good place to visit to support a local business.
The coffee and pastries were excellent; however, the food was disappointing. I ordered the donkatsu, but the coating had already separated from the meat, and it was overly oily with a burnt finish. It was far from the quality of authentic Japanese donkatsu. Next time, I will stick to just coffee and pastries.
