Story

Lyrical and poetic painter John Olsen is the inspiration for The Olsen.

Regarded as Australia’s greatest living painter, Dr John Olsen is best known for his lively paintings, in particular his work depicting central Australia and Lake Eyre. He is a master at water colours and etchings of all things great and small.

I’ve stayed at The Olsen many times now and yet again have just had an exceptional experience. The staff are always so professional and helpful. The location is amazing. The hotel itself is lovely. I stayed in a room with a balcony and was so imprsssed at how much room there was on the balcony, I spent a lot of my time out there! The room was lovely, warmly inviting, plenty of room. The bathroom was a little tired, with some mould obvious in the grouting around the shower - that’s literally the only negative thing I could say about my stay. I will definitely be back!
Great location and beautifully designed rooms. The rooms were clean and fitted with modern amenities. We loved the inspirational Olsen prints displayed in the room and throughout the hotel. Staff were very professional and friendly. Trams and trains are very close and we were able to travel into the city easily and quickly. There were numerous shops, cafes and restaurants within very short walking distance. We will definitely stay again.
How could this be a 5 star hotel? We arrived and were told that our booking was cancelled by Booking.com. This was definitely not the case after checking with Booking.com, the hotel hadn't confirmed our stay and put the blame on them we even received the Shopback so it can't have been cancelled. It was New Year's Eve and we were close to having no where to stay as the hotel was completely full. Luckily someone cancelled so we still got a room. We had purchased the room that included breakfast, and given the ordeal we double checked with 2 staff members that we wouldn't be charged for breakfast. 1 week later, we were charged for the breakfast. I called, the lady said the refund would be processed. A week later, still no refund. I had to call again, stay on the line for 20 minutes and the manager eventually said the refund would be put through. She then called back as they didn't even have my email address for the invoice. Another 3 days later and we finally received the breakfast refund + $20 compensation.nnThis didn't make up for the huge amount of time at the hotel, and in the weeks afterwards wasted dealing with this hotel!! The whole thing was a stressful experience and we wished we hadn't bothered staying here. Would never recommend The Olsen.
The highlight was the indoor/outdoor pool. Part of the pool has a see through glass floor, which was great. Also, you can look out onto chapel St from in the pool. The staff were amazing. I told them about my claustrophobia in elevators, and they happily opened the fire escape stairs for me. Thank you so much. The shower pressure was great and the bed comfortable. Housekeeping was a little loud when cleaning the rooms next door. Apart from that, perfect stay
I was super excited to stay at the Olsen but had an awful experience. Not only was it very difficult to sleep at night due to the traffic and not to mention a man was hit by a car outside of our hotel room. I had left my hotel room to go to my work conference and when I returned my clothes and been moved and items were also missing. I spoke to the front desk immediately as to find my clothing. They couldn’t find my item and said to speak to them in the morning. I went down to check out and asked about my item and no one had any idea it had even been missing. Normally I wouldn’t be this upset but it was a very expensive top. When speaking to the front desk they said they would contact the linen company first thing and when I came back from my second conference to see what was happening they still hadn’t contacted the company. I have since left the hotel and made my journey home and have zero information on my top. And to add to this the housekeepers had left various strands of hair throughout my bathroom. So overall I do not recommend
