The Mill Castlemaine

About

A place for foodies, art admirers and seekers of the collectable and curious - set in the historic Castlemaine Woollen Mill.

Story

Spend an hour or spend the day at this go-to zone for locals and tourists.
Starting as the Castlemaine Woollen Mill in 1875, and finishing as Victoria Carpets in 2013, The Mill has transformed into a place for food and artisan manufacturing - a part of Castlemaine’s vibrancy.
On-site in our food precinct the individual small businesses include a café, coffee roastery, winemakers, ice-creamery, bread maker, cakes, brewery and tap room, and more to come…
Our artisan precinct includes furniture makers, and metal craftsmen.
Our vintage precinct – home of Castlemaine Vintage Bazaar and Platform No. 5, offers stallholder market-style spaces to sell vintage,
re-purposed, hand-made and 2nd hand goods.
Visit artists at work in quirky art spaces and wander the site to explore a variety of sculptures, murals and past-ups.
There are health and wellbeing studios - Real Strength and emBODY pilates. There are also office spaces in use and available in this creative community.

The Mill Castlemaine is opposite the Botanical Gardens and has loads of on-site parking for cars, bikes, buses and caravans.

Please forgive us if you come on a day when there is lots of activity - transformation and landscaping works will be an ongoing job over the next year.

Wowwwww, this is such an awesome antique shop—I highly recommend it 1,000%! You won’t want to leave for a long time. Plus, you might be one of the lucky ones to find a magnificent treasure you’ve never seen before—maybe even in your own neighborhood. I couldn’t believe I could still find these amazing pieces, and there were so many people with looks of amazement at this treasure. I highly recommend visiting—it’s an incredible experience.
A really wonderful experience walking around the Mill! A huge selection of vintage and artisan, this and that. Fun to roam around and find something that fancies you. Within its compound, didn't realize there's more shops out back! Cafe, chocolate store, winery, ice cream etc. Definitely sure I didn't explore the whole place so I'm planning to comeback some other day! Definitely worth visiting for its aesthetic, shopping, food, drinks and music!
Castlemaine is truly one of Victoria’s hidden gems — a charming regional town that somehow makes you feel as though you’ve stepped into a small European countryside village. With its cosy cafés, historic streets, and hearty Austrian-inspired food, the town has a warm and relaxed atmosphere that is quite different from Melbourne.nnBeyond the excellent restaurants and bakeries, Castlemaine is also filled with unique local shops, vintage stores, art galleries, and artisan boutiques that reflect the town’s creative spirit. It’s the kind of place where you can simply wander around slowly, discover something unexpected, and enjoy a quieter side of Victoria that many travellers overlook. Definitely worth spending a few hours
This is my first time visiting Castlemaine. After exploring a few of its attractions, I decided to have a light lunch and coffee at The Mill's Cafe. I was very pleasantly surprised with the service, the amazing food and the very relaxing ambience.nAnd the coffee...without exaggeration, is the best and tastiest full bodied aromatic coffee I have had! I will definitely return with my family and good friends
The Mill Castlemaine is an absolute gem and well worth a visit if you’re in the area. Set inside a beautifully restored historic mill, it’s home to a mix of vintage sellers, local makers, artists, and food spots — with something new to discover every time you walk through.nnI loved wandering slowly and taking in the details: shelves of beautifully worn objects, creative displays, and the sense of history woven through the space. It’s the kind of place where you can easily lose track of time, whether you’re browsing antiques, grabbing a coffee, or just soaking up the atmosphere.nnThe layout is spacious and inviting, the stalls are thoughtfully curated, and the overall vibe feels relaxed and community-focused. It’s a great stop for photographers, design lovers, and anyone who enjoys markets with character rather than a generic shopping experience.nnHighly recommend adding The Mill Castlemaine to your Castlemaine itinerary — especially if you enjoy discovering unique, locally made or vintage finds.nn Castlemaine, Victoria
