Manly Aquatic Centre truly stands out as a top-tier facility for swimmers, fitness enthusiasts, and families. The centre boasts an impressive array of amenities, including both indoor and outdoor pools that cater to every need—whether you’re after serious lap swimming, rehabilitation, or just fun in the water with the kids.nOutdoors, you’ll find a spacious 50-metre pool perfect for training or leisurely swims, alongside a 25-metre pool and a fantastic splash area for children. Indoors, the centre features a heated 25-metre pool, a small but super-warm rehabilitation pool, and a brilliant indoor kids’ splash pool complete with sprayers and a slippery slide, making it a year-round destination no matter the weather.nBeyond the pools, the wellness options are exceptional. The sauna is notably hot—ideal for those who love a serious sweat—and there’s also a spa and steam room to help you relax after a workout. The gym is modern and well-equipped, available at an extra cost, adding great value for fitness buffs. Classes such as yoga, Pilates, boxing, and aqua aerobics are also on offer, ensuring there’s something for everyone.nParking is straightforward if you don’t mind a short walk up the road, and there’s plenty of space for both cars and bikes. The centre is clean, well-maintained, and staff are friendly and professional. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, Manly Aquatic Centre offers a premium experience with facilities that are hard to beat. Highly recommended!
Overall the aquatic center is great value however the steam sauna needs a close look and proper maintenance. Lately I’ve noticed this sick layer of mould on the seats, walls and hair on the floor which needs some proper regular higiene professional cleaning. The glass door needs some proper sealing to hold the temperature and due the high demand needs extra high level seats to fit every body inside the room.nThe spa needs a proper scrub and higiene cleaning around the edges.
The sauna at this facility is extremely dry — to the point that even slow nasal breathing causes a sharp burning sensation. This is not standard for electric rock saunas and raises legitimate health concerns.nnI calmly raised the issue with management, noting that humidity control is important for user comfort and safety. If patrons are no longer permitted to ladle water onto the stones due to past misuse, then staff should be managing the humidity themselves. That’s standard protocol at many other public facilities.nnInstead, I received a dismissive and bureaucratic response: the manufacturer’s signage suggesting ladling water was removed, and the sauna was simply rebranded as a “dry sauna” — without addressing the actual safety concern I flagged.nnThe spa area more broadly also is poorly maintained. Steam room surfaces are frequently sticky, dirty, and cleaning seems limited to basic hosing, rather than proper sanitation.
3.5 starsnThis is the second swimming complex in Sydney named after the legendary Andrew ‘Boy’ Charlton and it dwarfs its Woolloomooloo namesake. With seven pools for various purposes and audiences - four outdoors and three indoors- plus a large spa, it’s epic.nnYou can see how it has grown and been added to over many decades, from a simple 1m deep 25m outdoor pool to the very modern indoor pools with water play features, but our preferred swim here was the 50m outdoor Olympic pool.nnThe water temperature was perfect, it’s salt water chlorinated yay! making for a buoyant and pleasant water experience. Unfortunately on a hot Sunday there was only one lane of it devoted to recreational swimmers.nnThis particular pool has history too, having had big names like Michael Phelps train in it… but he probably would’ve been appalled by our languid paddling and floating around on a hot Summer’s day.nnThe historical accretion of facilities means there are two entire sets of change rooms to choose from, plus an indoor cafe, with plenty of free parking in the car park or on the street.
MICHAELA PHELPS ALERT nnPlace was good, easy for non-swimmers like me, I think $15 for a day-entry pass.nnHonestly, I just wanted to go straight to the massage area, but I pretended to swim just for my sport pride.nnFollow me to join me on my way to the Olympics ?nnThank me later
