About

Film Noir meets cocktail bar, more info coming soon...

"Welcome to The Long Goodbye. The Long Goodbye is a Film noir-inspired bar with classic cocktails and house-made liqueurs on Stanley Street in Darlinghurst.Flynn McLennan loves going to nice bars, but hates waiting ages for a drink. So at The Long Goodbye the drinks list is designed so any cocktail can be made in a couple of minutes. And there's no menu – you walk in, name a flavour and he'll make you something. Everything here is mixable and nothing is sacred.McLennan spends his downtime developing new liqueurs, such as the duck fat-washed apricot brandy; he pairs it with cognac, lemon and Chinese five-spice for a twist on the Sidecar. There’s also a Negroni made with a sticky-sweet beetroot liqueur."

A fabulous bar in darlinghurst where you get to choose exactly what cocktail you want! What flavour, alcohol….anything! Loved this idea. Also a very intimate space and sometimes they have live music which really brings out the romantic atmosphere.
A very cosy cocktail bar with ambient music. They have live music here every Saturday night and it is usually jazzy. Totally recommend! There add a venue twist to all cocktails
Like an island of old school, pretention-free, speak-easy good times in a sea of East Sydney gentrification that forgets so many important ingredients to bars like... say... personable staff that come across like they actually want to be there, authentic style that feels like a product of genuine creative connection to ideas as opposed to just ordered to replicate whatever new Sydney bar trend is in at the moment, and a diverse mix of punters that feel decidedly local but open to whoever you are and wherever you're from, Long Goodbye is a Darlo treasure. Throw in some eclectic live jam sessions on weekends, and a not-on-the-menu adventure into cocktails made to respond to whatever you feel like, and really, there isn't another bar like it in Sydney. We bloody adore the place! May it never say goodbye!
Wandered into this place after dinner at bar Reggio around the corner. I couldn’t recommend it highly enough!! From the aesthetic of the bar itself which is saloon meets speak-ezy to the delicious cocktails I had a negroni. If your looking for a place with great vibes, this is it.
Im trying to give this place a fair review so here it goes: 1. decor: 5star. Hygge, intimate, nostalgic, welcoming and communal. A much-needed contrast to Sydney’s impersonal pub/hotel culture. 2. service and reception: looks incredibly understaffed. On a Saturday night when it’s expected to get the most crowd, the place is run by one/two bartenders and one waiter running around. Both, lovely girls, seem overworked. We arrive before the live music is about to kick in and are told we are on the waitlist. An hour later, we show up again only to find the bar half empty though we were never called. 3. Band: Nope. I’m sorry folks, but this sounds like uncles jamming in a family gathering in the Midwest, having a good ol time. Out of tune, out of spirit. They sang gospel poorly at some point. Just Nope a note to Sydney’s music scene: where are the creative new voices?!. 4. « Bespoke » cocktails: we had two orders and I’d rate them 3.5/5 at most. What killed it for us was that the waiter barely knew what she was serving us “I think it’s vodka-based! You cool with that?” Hmmm if you come here for bespoke cocktails, you need more explanation of what’s actually in the drink, ya think! and to pay $15 cover charge for all that? Naaahhh
Had pre-dinner drinks on a Friday night. Fairly busy but the service was attentive. Great concept having no menu and all cocktails were 'bespoke'. Definitely a great place for when you're feeling a bit more adventurous. A tad noisy for the small space though, and we found ourselves having to raise our voice just to have a conversation. Otherwise a great place.
Very small place, but cozy. i love their concept you just tell them what flavour you're craving and they will make a drink for you based on that. Its a fun place to go on a date at ,very recommended if you want to experience something mysterious and exciting on a date night out
Really creative idea for a bar. Came here with my partner and we had a lot of fun ordering customised drinks based off of a few key words. They make their own liqueurs in-house and it’s clear that a lot of thought and care is put into every drink served here. It’s a great deal for $22 a cocktail. It’s also a fun, cosy atmosphere with lots of dimly lit corners. Feels like it could be both romantic and/or convivial depending on who you come here with. Hoping we can return again when the live jazz is playing!
An awesome spot to indulge in a mix of house made liquors or a great selection of international whiskies. Super friendly team and a great bunch of guests. If you feel lonely and need company sit on the bar and have a cool conversation with one of the guys or galls there.
Very cozy and warm atmosphere, complemented by beautifully crafted drinks, that are made by the best. The beetroot & mushroom Negroni that I had was out of this world!
