Rooftop bars are perfect in summer but I just realised how perfect they are in winter too! East Village have transformed theirs into this gorgeous, pretty-in-pink paradise and it's available for you to experience until the end of August. There are three levels in the venue and it's worth the walk up the stairs! The ground floor is your main bar - your favourite drinks and classic pub meals, level 2 is The Athletic Club, which is the place to be when you want to watch your favourite sports and then there's the rooftop. It is just stunning upon entry! Fluffy cushions and fairy lights are surrounded by greenery giving it a magical, forest atmosphere. Look out the glass panels and you'll get the perfect view of the CBD too. No need to worry about the cold because there are heaters and blankets. As well as the decor, they have a winter menu to match. The special item is the 'Four Cheese Fondue' which was served with vegetables, cured meats, and crusty bread. The drinks are made with winter warmers such as cinnamon, brown sugar and honey. I also got to enjoy a mulled wine which was made beautifully! Fondue 4 Two! This four cheese mix of gruyere, gouda, emmental & fontina cheese along with white wine and Luxardo Maraschino liqueur, was just beautiful. This was my first ever cheese fondue experience I know, who am I?! and I am thrilled it was here. Nothing beats an experience like this in a gorgeous winter garden in the heart of the city. We also ordered the 'Chicken Liver Parfait' which I loved! The addition of brandy-soaked raisins really made it something special. To finish off the meal with something sweet, we ordered the 'Pears & Figs'. This was served with a spiced red wine reduction and chantilly cream. Perfect way to finish off the evening along with the mulled wine.
Seriously the BEST schnitzel in Sydney!!! $15 lunch special gets you this schnitzel and it is massive!, sauce of your choice I got peppercorn again - so good! The sauce is the real deal too! None of that microwave stuff! and chips and delicious coleslaw salad that is amazing! Second time we have been back to enjoy a lazy Friday lunch. Thanks team! We’ll be back for more! Keep up the quality this is the best schnitty meal in Sydney!!!!!
Had the $15 lunch special Schnitzel with a Parmesan coleslaw. The schnitzel was the best schnitzel I can remember eating, cooked perfectly and the crust was really crunchy and delicious. The coleslaw was shredded really finely with fresh parmesan crumbled and tossed through, it had a really nice texture. Gravy/sauce was included. Really great meal, highly recommend!
We had an early work Christmas dinner on Thursday at the rooftop. The service was EXCELLENT and the food delicious. We had a great time. The stairs was a little harrowing
We went for the winter garden and it is not what it looks like on social media. I walked in and was absolutely shocked at the disarray the place was in. I actually called the day before to see if the rooftop would be okay in the weather and they said yes. The place looked absolutely awful though and I immediately wanted to leave. My friends were also running late because the weather was incredibly bad, so I asked if it was possible to cancel and they refused. They said if I left or if my friends didn't show up they would charge me $50 per person. They also came past a few times and "reminded" me I needed to be out by 7:45. I assumed because the tables were fully booked. I didn't want to be there or run over someone else's booking time, so I asked what we could do and they didn't really answer other than we'd be charged. I felt stuck in a really unpleasant environment. It later turned out another table cancelled and they said "there was no rush to leave" when that wasn't the issue. They said they were fully booked, but also had a private function right next to the few tables they had kept. All the tables were crammed next to each other and we couldn't even push our seats out to stand up. Due to the weather there was water everywhere, the tables were sticky and the decorations were lacking. There were electrical outlets covered in water. The waiter also let us know that one of our seats at the end of the table would be subject to rain, seat was wet etc. The private function was unpleasant, loud screaming and yelling, while we were trying to speak to each other. People super intoxicated, standing near our tables and refusing to move when we needed to fight our way to the front to use the toilet. The waiter even said he was having a hard time with the private function and apologised to us, as he had to keep making his way through the crowd towards the back of the room where the section of tables were, and their behaviour. As a result, some of our food and drink had a hard time getting to the table. If you have a private function, why would you take table bookings and subject the rest of your diners to such an unpleasant experience? I assume it was just to make extra money, hence their refusal to let me cancel after seeing how disappointing everything looked. The food was incredibly bad. The chicken and other food was freezing cold, nothing was heated correctly which didn't work with the cheese fondue. Cheese was incredibly disappointing, tasted like off/rancid cheese. They served a cocktail that was so bad my friends couldn't finish it. Towards the end, a big guy in the private function yelled at my sister as he had to move out of her way so we could pay. Then, as I was paying, a girl walked over to the EFTPOS terminal and was looking at my card and what I was paying for. I asked what she was staring at and she just wandered away. Never coming back here again
Stunning city views on the terrace and food/cocktails to die for. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. Cheese fondue was the main event!
My friend got engaged and we had booked a few tables to celebrate with her after to surprise her. As soon as we arrived, the bar staff made it very clear they did not want us celebrating there. We tried to explain our friend had just got engaged and was on her way, but the staff were rude, interrupted us as my friend and her partner entered the rooftop after we told them it was a surprise and what we were celebrating, and would not let us order at the bar, saying we needed to do table service. There was only a couple of other people sitting upstairs, so we weren't sure why we couldn't use the bar. Table service was slow and inconsistent. We were all drinking, and pumping plenty of money into the place, so it was really disappointing that they made it so uncomfortable for us and put a real damper on the night. I wouldn't recommend using this pub for any celebrations. Such a shame as the rooftop view is lovely, but we would have been better off at another venue where the staff were happy and keen to make it a good night for us. Not sure why you'd be in the hospitality business if you don't want to help people celebrate and have fun. It was just awkward.
Thank you so much to Cassie, Denice and all the team at East Village for an amazing Hens party event. Our day was filled with delish food, a great value drinks package and tasty cocktails. All served on the lovely outside rooftop deck. The team were lovely and went out of their way to keep us up to date before the event and looked after us on the day. They helped coordinate music, flexible with entertainment and space requirements. We honestly couldn't have asked for more. A special thanks to Denice and the bar crew on the day. We hope you enjoyed the party as much as us! x
Job in the city, pass by Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park. Beautiful Architecture for a sacred place.
Went to this place with my Aussie teammates. I am from India trying out the local pubs and restaurants in Sydney. I must say I had the best Parmigiana in Sydney here. Bar and food service were top class and we spent a quality time on a nice rainy afternoon!
