My friends came to my home to spend their vaccation and we went to Haunted Melbourne Ghost Tour to have some fun. We all enjoyed a lot. such a great ghost tour, we thoroughly enjoyed it. The tour guide was unique and he made our experience very funny, he was so knowledgeable and friendly. :
Excellent tour with the very knowledgeable Drew running the tour. I enjoyed learning about Melbourne's history just as much as the stories about the ghosts themselves. There was a LOT I never realised about Melbourne, despite living here for virtually my entire 36 year old life. It takes you down some laneways which is a cool way to discover some bars/restaurants you'd never have known were there otherwise! I'd definitely recommend the tour.
The tour itself was quite unremarkable, partly due to Melbourne's many construction zones which Drew, the tour guide, had to work around and partly due to the lacklustre story-telling and the actual formulaic stories themselves. Every story goes like this: person A died due to X, managers/staff of the venue saw A's ghost and quit their job, venue is put up for sale multiple times, repeat. However, the most unremarkable thing was Drew's attitude; my husband innocently engaged him in a side conversation and jovially asked him what he thinks is the most haunted city in Drew's experience being in the business. Drew responded in a snarky way and said to look that up on the internet and that it was all a hoax with "the most haunted this and the most creepy that". It got worse when he then mimicked what he believed was someone with Tourettes Syndrome, as there was a homeless man at Queen Victoria Market, who was obviously going through a rough time in his life. It was a moment where he could have imparted to the group that not all haunted people are necessarily dead, and that some people are fighting their own personal demons. Instead, he cruelly mimicked this homeless man for a few cheap laughs from the crowd. As this was towards the end of the tour and we had persevered until then, we decided to grit our teeth and just stay, but half of our group of 4 left halfway through and my husband and I should have left as well. We're from Melbourne and we always recommend or caution our family and friends re activities in Melbourne. This one's not going to be making the former list. Good exercise walking from 9-11pm though :
I've done this tour twice now and I loved it both times. Great tour of Melbourne and some interesting stories that educate about the history of our great city. Both times Drew lead the tour and I found him to be extremely knowledgable and willing to answer all reasonable questions.
Just completed the haunted tour of Melbourne. 2 hours of entertainment and walking showing me a different side of Melbourne I would never have known about otherwise. Our tour guides delivery is an acquired taste, I thought he was fab! But can see why others may not be open to his quirky personality. Will be back next year!! On another note, Sadly tragic to see the demolition of so many of Melbourne's old buildings to make way for overseas investors.
Completed the Haunted Melbourne Ghost Tour last night, so what might you expect to see? Well visually no ghostswell not on this occasion anyway, we spent a fair bit of time "lurking" in lane ways, looking at a half a dozen buildings, old and new where the tour guide suggested there had been "ghost sightings", all related to persons deceased historically, at those locations. The tour guide did his "best" to be entertaining via his tales, however I feel you might find him a little eccentric, and his communication technique lacking the ability to excite! Tour started at 8.45 pm from Mc Killop street and participants walk for 2 hours and perhaps 2 or so kilometers around what we come to understand via the tour guide, is the "older" part of Melbourne, finishing at the Melbourne Market. We started with about 30 or so people, with the tour ending with about 25 people as some left during the tour along the way. The historical information about Melbourne was interesting, and I guess I liken the "Ghost" part of it, to a tour where you get to find places that are suggested, "ghosts may dwell". By the end of the tour I felt there was a strong message that developers are busy tearing down historical buildings, to be replaced by new high rise monstrosities, taking away some of the heritage of our city. So "Ghost Hunters" if the goal is to see a ghost, I don't think this tour will do it for you, however the tour and content it is still interesting, if you want to know where "ghosts" may be hanging out?! I rated the experience *** stars. Hope this helps :
The worst story teller ever! Please do not go for this ghost tour. The stories that Drew tells are utterly boring. He takes you to some good old places which could be interesting otherwise and tells you that some people told him that they have seen a ghost there... and there was an accident a few years ago. That's it. The same story is repeated at every building by slightly changing the details. The narration style is also boring. You will feel like leaving the tour half way.
Drew is such a kind person and his service goes way beyond any book store i have walked into before. His collection of esoteric and occult books is amazing and the most complete I have every seen. His knowledge of history and books complements his ghost tour, which i would say is an asset to tourism victoria. I would highly recommend checking out his bookshop and ghost tour.
I've been on a number of excellent ghost tours in my time, and this wasn't one of them. There was very little actual history or story telling, just jarring half-stories with minimal background to them. The tour was a dawdling one expected to last over two hours and we ended up leaving half-way through. Would certainly not go back, or recommend to friends or travellers.
We really enjoyed this tour. So much information, reminders of old Melbourne and things we had forgotten interwoven with information we didn’t know. We are a bit of history buffs so perhaps the appeal was higher to us, as there are no ” ghost sightings “ promised, but it’s not Scooby Doo! We would thoroughly recommend this tour to anyone with an interest in listening and learning.
