Murray shared the best of Melbourne with us today, such a great way to discover Melbourne’s highlights. We took the kids 12 & 14yrs with us and we all had a ball. Thoroughly recommend this tour, especially the donuts at the markets! Great way to see this beautiful city and orientate yourself in a few hours.
Bike tour was good! Instructor was very knowledgeable of the area and showed us a few good spots to visit. Booked awhile in advance, but there wasn’t any follow up confirmation closer to the date so we ended up waiting at the old location and lost 2 hrs of the ride as there was no communication that they’d moved the meet up spot. Difficult to get ahold of any staff when this issue arose.
We had a very nice 4.5 hour bike ride and enjoyed it and felt like we got a great overview of the city. That said, this is the most expensive bike tour in the city and it felt a little disorganized for the price point if you are paying the full web site rate. The shop has no functioning bathroom, which isn't what you want to hear before embarking on a 4.5 hour ride with no restroom breaks until the last hour. When we arrived there were just 20 random bikes sitting out and they told you go take your pick without any assistance not sure how well that would work for beginners. We picked our bikes and got our seats and gears set. Then when two from our group left to use another building's bathroom, the staff put all the bikes away, so those two had to go back and pick new bikes and reset them again. We left 20 minutes late but the time was made up at the end. The guide was good and friendly and accommodated a couple of items of interest, but it sometimes felt unstructured and occasionally hard to hear because guide was a very soft talker not headsets. Overall no big problems and enjoyed our time.
Exploring Melbourne by bike with our guide Murray was a lot of fun and a good way to get an overview at the beginning of your stay. Murray showed us places and quarters where we wouldn't have found ourselves. The tour was definitely worth it for us!
I came to Melbourne to attend a business meeting, but having never been to Melbourne before, I wanted to get to know the city, too. I think biking is a great way to do that and get some exercise. Melbourne is bicycle-friendly with clearly demarcated bike lanes, bike rentals at low cost from city-wide automated stands, and free helmets with the bikes, though if there is no helmet with the bicycle subsidized helmets are available to purchase for just $5 at the nearly ubiquitous 7-11 stores. Melbourne By Bike offers a reasonably priced 4 hour tour, but our guide was having so much fun taking us around that we got more than 4 hours of tour time. Michelle, who loves Melbourne and loves sharing information about her town, told us about its history and showed us its modern trendy scenes. We toured through various neighborhoods, visited the enormous outdoor market, and saw the standard sites. In addition, Michelle took us into narrow, blind alleys, showing us the trendy bars, restaurants and coffee houses that are so "in" and trendy that they don't even have storefront signs. As part of the tour, she also took us for tapas/pintxos on the midpoint break the cost was included in the tour price, as were the bikes, helmets, etc. I loved her explanations of Australian culture. She even brought some Vegemite for us to try, and what trip to Australia would be complete without that?! Michelle put a lot of emphasis on bicycle safety and tailored the tour pace perfectly for the participants. If I get the chance, I will tour with her again, as I'm sure there's plenty more Melbourne to see and no better way to see it.
I cannot think of a better, more exciting way to discover Melbourne. Highly recommended for everyone visiting or coming here to live. The tour was fun, safe Michelle looked after us and explained everything we needed to know to drive a bike in the crowded streets of Melbourne and expertly tailor-made to the needs and interests of our small group; hidden cafes and rooftop bars, along with numerous info and tips to make the life of a recently relocated European that's me easier. Now, what can be said about Michelle, one of the loveliest, friendliest and most generous professionals I've ever met; she took us to amazing places, took wonderful pictures AND she made sure we were safe, comfortable and entertained at all times. Thank you and looking forward to our next tour.
Awesome tour, lots of fun, so much to see in Melbourne and you can cover a fair bit of ground on a bike. Even though I haven't ridden in many years I didn't have any trouble with it. Street culture in Melbourne is just fantastic, and Michelle knows all the best spots to visit and all the back stories behind the local street art, she researches her tours very thoroughly and can customise on the day if you have particular interests. We revisited many of the locations on foot over the next few days after the tour. I highly recommend this if you have time in Melbourne, well worth it and you won't be disappointed.
If you’re visiting Melbourne, do this tour! If you’ve lived in Melbourne ALL your life, do this tour! You’ll be so glad you did... The Melbourne by Bike experience was a complete revelation to me. I finished the tour exhilarated and quite thrilled. Why? Well it was everything I wanted, and more… I was hosting a first time business guest from Holland. We’d never met in person and I thought it would be a great ice-breaker, and it was. Our guide Michelle, was so warm, encouraging, knowledgeable and generous of spirit that we immediately felt comfortable and engaged, and became completely absorbed in her stories and anecdotes. I happen to be an experienced rider, but I needn’t have been. The comfortable and modern bike was simply a way to get around, covering an enormous amount of Melbourne in a short time, and the exercise was refreshing but very relaxing and moderate. And so we criss-crossed Melbourne from Federation Square, past the magnificent Royal Botanic Gardens, to the Tennis Centre, to the MCG – being the most iconic Sports Facility in Melbourne and probably Australia, then back to the city via the Yarra River. We rode to the landing site of the first European settlers in Melbourne adjoining a new park that pays tribute to the indigenous inhabitants of Australia which Michelle explained with great passion and sensitivity. This was followed by an intimate and magical tour of all the secret lanes, and food outlets, quirky shops, and the famous arcades where Melbourne by Bike has secured “access all areas” for their guests. We gently meandered North through the City via the Queen Victoria Market and then onto “Little Italy” in Lygon Street including a quick look through Melbourne’s most famous Café Brunetti’s. Then onto Fitzroy for a yummy and generous informal lunch where we also enjoyed more snippets about Australia and Australians, including quirky customs and many humorous idiosyncrasies; and culminating in a breathtaking 360 degree view of the City and Inner Suburbs from a wonderful rooftop vantage point. After lunch we returned to the City itself via colourful Brunswick Street, past the gorgeous Melbourne Exhibition Buildings and Melbourne Museum, the wonderful theatres on Exhibition Street and Parliament House. A final colourful tour through China Town and fun ride along Swanston Street back to Flinders Street Station marked the end of an incredible and fulfilling experience. But why was I so exhilarated and thrilled? Because I HAVE LIVED IN MELBOURNE ALL MY LIFE, and I never knew about so very many special places that Melbourne by Bike took us too. My worldly Dutch guest and I were so inspired by the discovery of one hidden waterfront venue, we went back for drinks that same evening at sunset, and then to another restaurant Michelle introduced us to the next night for Dinner, followed by a drink on a trendy secret rooftop night club that MBB had also showed us during the tour. Talk about a win-win for me as well as my guest! So my recommendations are simple. If you’re visiting Melbourne, do this tour! If you’ve lived in Melbourne ALL your life, do this tour! You’ll be so glad you did.
This was the best way to tour Melbourne. Michelle packs so much in one day and we probably saw more of Melbourne in one day, than most bus tours will be able to show you in 3 days. Michelle went beyond our expectations and we truly had a memorable time with her. Michelle also takes pictures of you and your group with her iPhone and sends those to you after the tour. They are good quality photos. This was especially smart on her part so that we could concentrate on riding our bikes and enjoy beautiful Melbourne and listening to her tour, including her description of the architecture, history and people of Melbourne and Australia. Michelle has even done her homework. To ensure she had accurate information, she researched much of the history, and places of Melbourne and Australia. Her tour should not be missed, especially if you enjoy a fun bike ride. We highly recommend this tour.
Melbourne By Bike was an excellent way to see the beautiful city of Melbourne. Michelle was very friendly and informative. We saw a wide variety of things from major landmarks like the Eureka Tower and Royal Botanic Gardens to hidden secrets like Croft Institute and back alley graffiti. I would strongly recommend taking this tour to see a completely new perspective of Melbourne.
