Fabulous home style cooking at its best! Character filled gorgeous little restaurant, so cozy with an old fire place and rustic tables. Super friendly staff. Generous portions. Get there early!! It’s so popular, recommend at 5pm. We ordered the home baked garlic bread, pasta and Soup of the day. All delicious.
Great spot, atmosphere is epic, dark and cozy stable with huge fireplace but I won’t expect fire on during the summer lol Great quality carb load place Runners, riders, hikers take a note Good balanced food, had to taste few different pastas liver, seafood and mushroom and enjoyed pepperoni pizza. Pizza was great but just add few drops of Kaitaia and get a glass of Pinot Noir to turn that to banquet! Really liked the use of liver in pasta, I would just add a splash of brandy to sauce but that’s just my palette.
Great location in a somewhat hidden lane way. Good menu offering with great tasting pizzas. Candle lit tables and stone walls are a fantastic atmosphere.
Got a half portion of seafood pasta with a pizza to share. Flavors were good and we felt full afterwards. Everything was freshly prepared.
Not bad, have to try the pizza. Store attendants were generally nice. Didn’t enjoy the soup of the day as it was really thin and just full of curry powder. Crowd got heavier after 6pm and seating area is quite limited, so go earlier!
Had a very average experience at this place last night. Great aesthetics, but super overly hot to the point of being uncomfortable, food was good, but the whole evening was badgered by one extremely rude older female waitress who was unbelievable. The other staff were great. We were a group of 10 people, well behaved customers, ordered plenty of food and drink, but basically told to hurry up and get out. She actually said "just pay your bill and go we have people waiting for this table" Extremely rude. Plenty of places to eat that don't have rude people serving, so not worth the stress.
Such a memorable experience. Open log fire, amazing old building, great food, best garlic bread I've ever had, friendly staff.
Just had very average pizza for $40 which is more than I have ever paid by a long way for pizza anywhere. The old Cow in QT 25 years had great pizzas but it looks like they are now trading on the reputation and the institution and serving very average food. Definitely not worth 40 bucks. That’s it for me! The kebab joint on the waterfront is heaps better. Also I would like to add that the online prices are about five bucks cheaper per pizza so we ended getting stung for another fifteen bucks over what we thought. Pretty poor show really
We had been here about 4 months ago and the food was outstanding but this time the Bolognese was so disappointing I had literally 8 spoon fills of food in my bowl. Last time the bowl was nearly overflowing I didn't finish it. And there was hardly any mince in the filling 90% sauce. I had mentioned this to the staff and all they said was that's a shame. We spent $180 and had to go and get more food somewhere else wouldn't recommend unfortunately.
When everyone else makes you book in advance, The Cow let us wait for a table while enjoying a nice glass of vino. My coeliac husband has been talking about his GF pizza ever since we left that night. Staff are pretty cool too. We tried to go back the next night but unfortunately it was the night they're closed - so it looks like we have to go back to Wanaka!
